What was this in response to?
- 87_71_11_29

Ryan retweeted one of his tweets then tweeted, "some people in the media are really good at their jobs because you let them get you into a tizzy over nothing"

Think the retweet was Madden saying trade Malkin but none the less the exchange was entertaining. Then reading the people jump in and stick up for Ryan was funny to me as well.

Does anyone..... in Pittsburgh.... really enjoy listening..... to Mark Madden...... While he regains his..... breath after getting....winded from saying..... a few words?

In all honesty, the poop that he says on air, I feel like I have never fully agreed with any opinion he's every spouted out. He is honestly the most annoying radio personality I have ever heard, partly because of the stupid way that he speaks, but mostly because he is so god damn full of himself its not even funny.

His style wears thin on me very quickly... I will often check out his interviews, as he gets a lot of good guests and does interview pretty well (if you can get past the breathing in the background while the guests is answering lol).

As a radio guy, he is good at his job, which is to attract attention and drum up ratings... But that doesn't make him any less annoying.

He sounds like this guy Josh Innes who is a fairly new guy at Philly's WIP. The dude is super combative and the stuff he spews MUST be just to get people all riled up, as no one could actually believe what he says. Guys like that, sadly, do their job well.

Having a level headed approach to game 5 out of 82 makes it awfully hard to fill hours of radio time

He knows more about hockey than anyone else in this city.

Except for the fact that he loves Sutter.

I have never once listened to Madden and thought "wow, he is a really insightful guy and knows a lot about hockey." I actually completely disagree and think he's full of sh*t.

Well 93.7 the fan has absolutely no knowledgeable hockey talk, except when they have the occasional good hockey interview. 93.7 the fan is a poster boy for Pirates baseball and could care less about the Pens.

Madden dedicates 95% of his show to hockey, and is 100% straight out honest about what he is going to deliver show to show. The bits he does with Stan Savern are absolutely fantastic, including the whole Neal trade ordeal; which Stan backed fully. Madden gets down to exactly what I want to hear as a hockey fan, system breakdown, inside player info, and harsh opinions.

I met Madden in the Civic arena press box the last time the Sabers played the Pens in the Igloo and he was one of the nicest most genuine people I have ever had a chance to talk to. His persona on the radio gets him ratings (best ratings in the city), when I met him and talked to him he couldn't have been a nicer guy.

He does know hockey... I don't always agree with his opinions, and sometimes his positions are just to generate reaction, but he knows the sport. More importantly, he was one of the very few Pittsburgh media people who covered and pushed hockey before it was popular to do so.

Like Bartley said, he's a different person off the radio than on.

If you think a little before you talk to Madden you'll get a much better response from him. If he thinks you are an idiot...good luck...he'll let you know.

As much as I don't like some of the stuff 'shock jocks' do...he's pretty much a straight shooter when it comes to his opinions and very knowledgeable about hockey and the Pens.

Its hard to seperate Madden's information or hockey opinion's from his media persona/style.

I enjoy listening to his opinions on the Penguins and hockey, but he is just such the sterotypical blowhard sports radio shock jock on the air I find it impossible to listen for more than 10min at any given time. I guess for a certain sub-set of sports listeners treating everyone like a moron is entertaining, but he's just so needlessly rude on the air that I can't listen to it.

That's funny, too each their own, but I couldn't disagree more. Every time I hear him giving his opinion, 9 times out of 10 I disagree with with it. Even his breakdown's of the game I think are terrible. In my opinion, the dude is clown shoes and should go back to commentating wrestling.

As a Flyers fan going back 9 yrs in the Crosby era, would you take everything the Pens have had with MAF or the endless carousel of Goalies the Flyers have had?

Oh, MAF, no doubt. Stability in net has been their achilles heel. Mason seems like he could finally offer that, although the defense (or lack there of) does him few favors.

Edit: With MAF, the Flyers probably win the Cup in 03/04 as well as 09/10.

Last year, I remember Madden made a list of top 5 players on the Pens roster that CAN NOT play hockey. Sutter made the list. Can't remember the number, but I think he was top 2

Now he loves him....

Not that I'm sticking up for Madden - can't stand him - but Sutter is changing a lot of peoples opinion of him (mine included). The trade talk last year seems to have woke him up. He's been much better since then.

I like listening to Madden just for pure entertainment. He offers good hockey insight. The best in Pitt radio in fact. I like how he cuts off callers when they start to ramble or bore his audience. No wasted motion there. I appreciate that. 93.7 will let the caller ramble on and on.

I think Madden's interviews with players are actually kind of boring. They are totally scripted. You can literally feel him reading the question from his sheet or puter screen.

His stuff with Stan and Mr. Thursday Afternoon are pretty good.

Definitely an acquired taste...

I can take him in small doses. I love the hockey focus, but turn him off when he starts berating people and athletes......(except when he was chewing up Bylsma. That was like ice cold Stella on 95 degree day for me)

I hate the idea of trying someone in UFA which doesn't look promising and hoping for a prospect to shine. You could trade, but I don't think the Pens have the option to trade to be honest.

He knows his Sh!t. He bashes Geno because he expects more kinda like how Ryan bashes Fleury because he expects more. And his have you ever seen the flyers win a cup t-shirt is priceless
