I know other teams shouldn't dictate your cap hits and contracts, but Fleury's cap hit is 15th of all goalies in the league. Technically he's paid like a slightly above average goalie. - Deadstar
This is true... He's an average starting goalie, and paid like an average starting goalie.
However, if you look at the top 50 goalie cap hits on capgeek, the level in play between Fleury at 15 and probably the whole way down to Khudobin at #32, isn't all that different.

Flyers Outplay Penguins, No Need To Overreact - Ryan_Wilson
Extremely classy act by the Penguins organization to play O Canada last night. As a Canadian and member of the Canadian Armed Forces, I really appreciated the gesture. Cheers!

That's an AAV of $3.375M per. Or do you not like the length? - jmatchett383
I'd be fine with a 3 year deal anywhere under $4 mil. If (huge if with goaltenders) Jarry or Murray pan out in a couple of years, MAF can be a backup in that third year while the younger guy still has has a low cap hit.
I just can't see any way that Fleury signs for less than $5 mil though. He's making $5.75 mil in actual salary this year, that is too much of a haircut for any veteran to take while still in their prime age, just on pride alone. |

So, if he agrees to, say a 4-year deal worth $13.5M, how would you feel? - jmatchett383
I'd be ok with it. As bad as he is, MAF/Griess is a better combo than whatever the Flyers have and have had. |

I'm done holding out for prospects. Despress is a bottom D man built up so much over the years. His turnover in the 3rd was horrific. He makes 1 super dumb play every game, and probably 3-4 dumb plays on top of that.
No body is trading for MAF as a UFA, and I'm not sure he would take a 2mil pay cut. If so, Im ok with him coming back.
BTW, Dupes and Kunitz are showing their age. |

Pens fell asleep in the second and first half of the third. They were able to turn up and i thought horny tied it on that tip. W.e. the coach does i hope he leaves sid n horny together maybe move duper up cause kunitz has shown before he and geno play well. Hate to say it but berube is a solid coach. Good at adjusting. FLOWER POWER deserves no more than 3.5m for no more than 3yrs. If he feels any different take a walk. Who's going to give him more he hasn't proven anything since the cup almost any goalie out there could win 30 gms a season on this team |

Be careful. Even suggesting that will get you all kind of hatred on this board.
Btw I agree with you. They started showing this last year. |

Hey all. As a Flyers fan I truly am baffled on the Pens inability to handle the Flyers. You're exactly the type of team that SHOULD give us trouble aside from the given that you are a better team.
Our defense is atricous. If you dump and chase on them, you will probably get the puck back most of the time.
Question: I'm seeing multiple blogs out there regarding Sean Couturier "underachieving" and only playing well against Pitt. Is the the general concensus out there? This is the most baffling thing I've ever heard. You wouldn't take this guy? - cmr.266
That is Dejan on Pittsburgh Sports. Others are just echoing that. |

I don't care, been saying it for over a year. If Geno is such a generational talent he should be doing fine with Sutter and Super Duper, I mean Dupes had a good season 2 years ago! |

Unfortunately someone will pay him what he's making now or more. Look at the list of UFA G's, it's not that impressive and not really any upgrade. For the #1 UFA G available you would be paying 4+ easy. |

I thought Duper looked ordinary even before his injury last year.
Everyone blamed Kunitz's flameout post-Olympics on an injury/fatigue combo platter. But, his level of physical play has severely diminished from where it was 3 yrs ago.
Both are still serviceable but not what they once were. |

Horns? Patty? Hornsy?

Yeah you're right, but I would rather have concistant average over the musical chairs of G's that have been in Philly over the last several years. Nitty, Biron, Mason, Emery, Bryz, anyone I am missing? None of them have really been a solution either for Philly. |

That's my concern too. It's easy to sit back and say that they can just re-sign Griess, or they could have traded for Reimer this summer, or last summer gotten Khudobin for cheap, etc., but cheap, decent goaltenders aren't all that prevalent. If Griess struggles, or if the price is too high to acquire Reimer (as Dreger said recently), or a UFA guys picks a different destination, you could be stuck overpaying for a UFA or playing musical goaltenders for a few years, just hoping that you catch lightning in a bottle (see Michael Leighton). |

Leighton didn't just catch lightning in a bottle. He had a whole case of lightning stored in a warehouse that he'd been collecting for decades. Sadly, he used the last of it before overtime of Game 6. |
