He suggested the Oilers might be interested in keeping Draisaitl past 9 games, but sending him down before he hits 40. The reason being that if a player plays 10 games it officially uses a year of their ELC, but if he's sent down to Jr. before he plays 40 it doesn't count as a year towards UFA.

He suggested some GMs try to game this by keeping a player, sending him down before 40 so remains an RFA an extra year, and it's easier to give the guy a bridge contract because he's not up performing in the NHL. Think that's what MacT is doing?
