I would do that no problem, I wouldn't be surprised to see OEL leave Arizona, the team seems to have a rough time with attendance if I'm not mistaken and bringing in scorers tends to help with that more than a dman.

Heh. I see OEL hitting the free agency at some point before he's 30. He'll never be traded though. You don't trade those type.

I would rather keep Ebs tbh but bringing in someone like OEL would do wonders for this team.
- Horseguts

Honestly. A Weber type would do a whole lot more than an OEL type of guy. OEL compliments a team that already has a bit of a established core in place. Grabbing a Gudbranson would be nice. The potential is still there for him to be the player he is supposed to be. I think Gudbranson could be had without giving up either one of Eb/Yak.

And I understand where you're coming from. Would you trade Ovechkin for Weber (to basically add on 5 years to OEL/Hall) though? Its about the same type of comparison just with players who are in their primes.

OEL is a good defenseman but not elite

Go say that in the Panthers thread and I bet we'll have a good laugh. I would love to get Weber but the asking price for a 30 year old would be nuts. OEL is more in the target age range of this team.

Disagree. But elite's one of those terms that is very arguable.

You already have 3 guys to perform the same role as OEL with Klef, Marincin and Nurse. Kitty Cats thread has what. Two guys sitting in the swamp who think Gudbranson is Weber?

Karlsson, Pieterangelo, Chara, Doughty, Keith are elite.... OEL is one rung down.

But he would cost a fortune. Why not get a guy who can grow with the core in place? Oilers arent winning the cup in the next 3 years. Its about getting the pieces in place for the prime of theyre careers. Weber would 33+ years old when the Oilers could be potential contenders.

If I remember correctly he was on theyre 2nd or 3rd pair. Not to mention I think theyre management is higher on Petrovic at this point.

Chara has gone down one rung over the last couple seasons. He's still amazing, but he's not in the league of Keith, Doughty, Weber, Suter, Pietrangelo. Karlsson (and guys like Letang/Subban/etc) are in their own category of wingers on defense. But I'd argue OEL is stradling elite and getting more into that category with each year.

OEL was very avg in the Preds game the other night. First half of the game he was very shakey.

He's turning into more Jack Johnson than elite d-man

He was wasn't he? He took a nasty hit the previous game which I think he's still jittery from.

Yeah but most people would put him in the top 10-15 dmen in the NHL and he's only 23 years old, he's probably still going to improve considerably.

*shrug* We'll see, eh? Thing about dmen is they hit their best from 28-34 I think.

Jack Johnson isnt that good TBH. I watched him his entire career. Chara is still lights years above JJ. But Chara is getting old. Hes huge. He isnt going to be able to keep pace with the rest of the guys forever.

First half the game he was a turn over machine. He was way better in the 3rd period of that game.

The strong defensive play in Arizona isnt as strong as it once way. In the few games I watched. I think OEL is probably learning bad habits from being paired with Yandle every so often. Thats got bad news written all over it. Two guys that wanna jump into the play on the back end.
