Overall, LA seemed to use a similar plan. Rely on drafting/developing, let the core develop together, be opportunistic and trade picks/prospects for key missing pieces when they come on the market. Don't trade from the core.

Sometimes you think guys are part of the core. Then realize theyre part of the solution via trade. I think LA thought Jack Johnson was going to be in LA for a long time. But he proved he was going to continue to be a defensive liability.

Why the hell Yakupov is still in those trade talks? I watched the games against TB and Vancouver and he was the most hardworking forward out there...why not trade Eberle to get a legit 2C and a top 4 D?

In my opinion, until the Oilers completely wipe clean the whole front office and the whole system. No matter how many high draft picks they get they're still going to suck because they play like this:



Good team defense is the bare minimum in the NHL these days. Nobody in Edmonton has seemed to realize this for a long long time. Until you get a front office that demands it, a coach that teaches it, and players that play it you can't even begin to compete.
