Thing is with Myers, the return would have to be extreme (Straight from the GM) He turned down a top 10 pick last year for him.
So Myers is like Yak in terms of Trade value V Actual value. - ImThatGuy
but if the package for him now are a propspect like Mantha/Larkin and Kindl. Eberle plus is just a pipe dream. I dont think you will see a return like that if Myers does get traded.
I dont know why he is being shopped, he doesnt have a terrible contract and hes a young dman, why move him in the first place? |

No as in a history of poor pro-scouting, poor drafting, poor development of those picks and rushing players to the NHL.
MacTavish has only been at the reigns for a short time frame but there is a major shakeup needed from the amateur and pro scouting departments, to player development, to decision making. - willey101
hard to disagree with this... the fat bastard MacGregor has alot of proving to do yet... and MacT signed alot of bottom 6 fwds and 4-7 dmen... not exactly highly skilled- esp when you use the latest example of Nikitin as our highest paid dmen that absolutely wreaks of suck... |

I agree, use a couple picks and a prospect to get a second rounder now to get a second line centre if you can . |

They should trade McTavish and Lowe. Until they get rid of those guys any other moves they make will probably be terrible. |

again; I don't agree. I think this isn't looking at the whole picture.
when the team tore it down, the cupboards were completely empty. this has been part of the problem. not only did we sell off any nhl level assets that we didn't want, we didn't have anything in the cupboards outside of eberle (hall hadn't been drafted yet at rebuild start--trade deadline 2010) to look forward to.
and while Prendergast was an absolute disaster of a head scout, (a direct result of being a bad team and having nothing in the cupboards. he probably made 2 maybe 3 quality picks in 15 years (hemsky/smyth) and the rest total misses) he was let go prior to this teardown and Macgregor hired. and I don't think hes (Macgregor) part of the issue at all. picks take time. we'll see.
outside of the obvious high picks that anyone could've done, hes made many promising picks. klefbom, marincin (who is developing beautifully), has added size in the surprising yakimov. khaira, chase are promising etc.
of course none of these are sure things, but the point is, there has been a change.
but its still gonna take time for nurse, klefbom etc to develop, because behind our core we have some decent depth finally, but not the studs we need.
player development could be argued tho. but I also don't think the oilers have much options in some spots to not play those kids. hall may have been our best player his rookie year. nuge had more points in 20 less games played than the next best rookie. I do think in a perfect world it woulda been nice to send some of them back. but another thing is, how many first overalls get sent down? the oilers certainly didn't invent this |

Mantha is a pipe dream and Larkin is slightly only a little more than a pipe dream. The Wings aren't nearly as desperate for a defenseman as people seem to think. They can get by in the regular season with the sucky Quincey/Kindl line and they have guys in the minors who they can tryout before trading away anything close to a 1st round pick.
They'll wait patiently. Buffalo is playing to break their own record for the lowest goals scored in an 82 game season/McDavid sweepstakes so they may not come down from their astronomical Myers ask. Other teams will probably be more reasonable later in the year when they fall out of it though. |

all I hope for if a trade goes down is that the VAST majority of the return is in the impact player we get back.
by that I mean; accepting much less value in the nhl commodity we receive to accept added value in picks or prospects is not at all what we need |
