I don't think he's biased against skill guys considering the four of the six players with the most ice time on the team are Giroux, Streit, Voracek, and MDZ.
- aflyerpower8

I don't think he nor the players have found the right lines yet. The fact Read asked to move to the right side, as he felt better over there is an indicator that they are still trying out all the parts...it would have been great to do this in preseason and not do the split squad crap so the team could start from day 1 of training camp working together vice giving 60 guys a chance to pass the puck around and wasting the opportunity to gel...

Daily Akseon rant:

Akeson was second only to Giroux in 5v5 production (per 60 mins) during the playoffs (when he played with linemates that had some modicum of talent) last season.

The fourth line wasn't scored upon and generated more shots before Akeson was benched.

Vandelvelde and Jones made ugly turovers lastnight that resulted in rushes the other way, with Jones's resulting in a goal against.

According to Berube "Akeson needs to Jason Akeson to play a "simple game" and not be so turnover-prone" (Akeson had one turnover all season). So, can we expect a benching for Jones and Vandevelde now that they made more egregious turnovers? Somehow I think they'll avoid the axe of irrational Berube logic.

Jones also took a dumb charging penalty.

How can you find hte right lines when you give them 2.5 periods together? At this point, he needs to go in 5 game increments. Put a lineup together and leave them for 5 games. Let them build chemistry. Is it really gonna cost you any additional games than the 4 you were already gonna lose?

This could happen later in the year if the team continues its slide. Right now I think the first changewill be the coach. I know a lot of people think he's safe for the year. But zero regulation wins changes things awfully fast.

All I will say is this:

Win or lose....those are the two options.

Win...

Or Lose.

Schenn played his way off the first line. His (lack of) speed hinders his forechecking ability and he isn't big enough or consistently solid enough with the puck to keep possession.

That has little to do with what I said. If anything a coaching change might increase their odds of winning with the way Berube is handling things of late.

Calling up Ghost... I wouldn't do it unless the season is out of reach and he can get big minutes. That said, he was one of our best D men in training camp. Calling him up sooner might actually help this team in the short run too...

You should never throw away a season but the Penguins 2009 Cup and the Hawk 2010 Cup is based on lottery picks. I personally felt entering this season that we were a bubble team to make the playoffs at best, with no shot of winning a Cup. If one lost season brings in an up and coming talent that puts us back on course, I can live with it. Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds seem to be ouronly sure pieces for production right now, which is a far cry from a team that featured us being strong at every position outside of goaltending.

Zero offensive zone starts last night. If you're going to do that you may as well trade couturier while he still has value and then you can go out and sign a good veteran defensive center & not give him any O zone starts
- Jsaquella

Couturier had 2 offensive zone starts last night. But that doesn't really change the point of how he is used. But I think trading him because of that is silly. Right now, the way the team is playing defensively, the coach doesn't have much of a choice. Obviously the Giroux line should see a lot of offensive zone starts. And Giroux is the only other center that Berube trusts to take a D zone draw. And the other lines need to be put in sheltered starts.
