This Pierre/Mike Johnson interview.

There is probably a legitimate reason they aren't shooting Pierre from the waist down.

in truth, once the flyers start getting embarrassed and every single thing goes against them, i'll start to get angry, which will last for the duration of the game eventually turning into not caring by the time i go to bed.

The Flyers need Couturier to be more than he is. That is beyond debate. And if he can't get there because the coach can't see how to get him there, then maybe another coach can and would.

I've felt this way since the start of the off season. And I get ripped for being negative.

Of course that ripping is from the same guy who says they're a playoff team with a "middle third" defense...which he also says has one guy capable of handling a primarily defensive role because the defense isn't good enough to cover for the other lines.

- Jsaquella

This "guy" believes that if the team plays to the level it's capable of, that the average defense corps is good enough for the team to make the playoffs. And I also believe that the Flyers as a team, can improve and play better all around hockey. And we've seen the team play at that level for parts of games this season. Unfortunately, they've be woefully inconsistent.
This "guy" also has a track record of saying that the team would turn around and make the playoffs last season. I believe the same thing will happen this year. Time will tell if I'm correct about that.

What frustrates me the most is knowing even if the Flyers just make or miss the playoffs, they will not improve much for awhile because they are hamstrung by contracts.

Including this season, they have to wait...

2 years until Coburn (4.5M), L. Schenn (3.6M), Grossmann (3.5M) are off the books.

3 years until Umberger (4.6M), Streit (5.25M), Pronger (4.94M) are off the books.

4 years until Lecavalier (4.5M) is off the books.

Very slim chance another team takes any of those contracts off the Flyers hands and if they do the Flyers will get no value in return. Those contracts will and are affecting the team from improving, trading and using prospects when they are ready.

coburn is a decent deal. he could easily be moved i think.

Bob M just called McDavid a generational talent, and the best prospect the NHL has since since Crosby.

Does McDavid have a higher ceiling than Stamkos?

Possibly. He's not the same kind of goal scorer, but the kid creates a ton of offense. He's got amazing moves, great stickhandler and playmaker, and he can score goals as well. He's a monster.

Coburn may get resigned as well, same with L. Schenn, but the problem is that's a lot of money for average or below average performance. That also hinders the team in other facets.

Yeah, we should -- why is it that almost every other team does it differently with their top 10 centers?

Steven Stamkos might not have started on the first line or the second line. But how long did it take for him to get on one of those two lines, when he made the NHL? Did he play as a checker for his first four seasons?

How long did it take Vincent Lecavalier to center a top line? Did he move to the wing, then back to center, then wing, then center, then wing?

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Jonathan Toews. Anze Kopitar. Nicklas Backstrom.

How is it all those Top 12 centers miraculously find their way to centering a scoring line without being checkers and wingers, but the Flyers' guys just can't seem to find their way without it?

- AllInForFlyers

You're comparing first line centers to Couturier. The Flyers first line center Giroux, who is the comparable player to Toews, Kopitar, and Backstrom, centers a top line.

And let's get one thing straight. Last game Couturier took 11 defensive zone draws in the game. He had 27 total shifts in the game.

I'd rather have Eichel on Giroux wing!

I think Raffl, Voracek, Simmonds, Read, PEB and Akeson are all quality wingers. They aren't all first line players, but they bring good qualities to each line. PEB, Read and Raffl have speed and are good two-way players. Simmonds is the best in the league in front of the net, Voracek and Akeson are strong with the puck on their stick. Umberger is a line killer and VL can't play wing.

That's exactly my point: The Flyers could do it if they wanted to, either move Couturier up or play Schenn in the middle with two offensive wingers.

They choose not to. But that doesn't mean they're smarter than every other team that would.

- AllInForFlyers

Move Couturier up? The only forward who plays more at ES then Couturier is Giroux.

I still think McDavid could be a great player, but Eichel fits better with the Flyers!
