like how we should see couturier with proper scoring wingers before we trade him?
- 2Real

Giving Coots or BSchenn "proper scoring wingers" basically means Jake and Wayne.

I'm not sure if we have anybody else at this time who would fit that description.

I don't think they're a playoff team, myself, but they could sneak in. They're not as bad as they were against Chicago, and they have been competitive against some good teams.

Giroux will get hot at some point, and carry them to some wins and they'll make some noise. They're not Buffalo or Carolina.

- Jsaquella

that's what I fear most, just bad enough to miss the playoffs and just good enough to not draft in the top ten.

I think Raffl, Voracek, Simmonds, Read, PEB and Akeson are all quality wingers. They aren't all first line players, but they bring good qualities to each line. PEB, Read and Raffl have speed and are good two-way players. Simmonds is the best in the league in front of the net, Voracek and Akeson are strong with the puck on their stick. Umberger is a line killer and VL can't play wing.

That's exactly my point: The Flyers could do it if they wanted to, either move Couturier up or play Schenn in the middle with two offensive wingers.

They choose not to. But that doesn't mean they're smarter than every other team that would.

The request was for scoring wingers.

Read, perhaps, if he ever decides to make an appearance. I would not consider the others as scoring wingers by any stretch of the imagination.

I actually think they play well tonight.

Edit: They may fall down 3-0 though. Doesn't mean the game is over though

This team is a bunch of pretenders. They talk the talk, but certainly don't walk the walk. I'm getting close to writing this season off.

Were not looking for 80 point seasons from them. I would just like to put together 4 lines that can be deployed in a variety of situations. Couturier's problem isn't necessarily his linemates (although I don't like Umberger with him), it's more his zone time and QoC. Give him more opportunity and he's a 50-60 point player.

I would like to finish the season with the four centers being
G
Couts
Schenn
Laughton

If they come out of November with 1 win and go 0-3 against the Panthers and Canes you can call it right there and pull the sheet over it.

I feel ya. Once the game starts, I think I'll start to really care. Even if the Flyers end up being poopty this year, I hope they get up for the division rivals

I would take my chances with that, going forward. I don't know what you do with Vinny, but if the choice becomes selling low on Schenn vs. keeping Lecavalier, that isn't even a choice

in truth, once the flyers start getting embarrassed and every single thing goes against them, i'll start to get angry, which will last for the duration of the game eventually turning into not caring by the time i go to bed.

"Every scout in the NHL is out there tonight, with contracts in their pockets, and they're looking for talent. For winners. OOOOOOOOOH. All my years of publicity. All the fashion shows and radiothons for nothing... They come here tonight... to scout the Chiefs... the toughest team in the Federal League! Not this! Buncha... pussies."

My concern is always that I'll get too emotionally involved, too angry and won't be able to relax when its time to go to bed. Nights like that usually result in the alarm going off at 6a.m. and me staggering out of bed looking and feeling like an extra on the set of The Walking Dead.

You might think by now that I'd be able to be a little more zen-like in my approach to sports, but.. no. That doesnt happen, and it especially doesn't happen with teams like Toronto, the Rangers, and the Penguins.

This Pierre/Mike Johnson interview.

There is probably a legitimate reason they aren't shooting Pierre from the waist down.

What frustrates me the most is knowing even if the Flyers just make or miss the playoffs, they will not improve much for awhile because they are hamstrung by contracts.

Including this season, they have to wait...

2 years until Coburn (4.5M), L. Schenn (3.6M), Grossmann (3.5M) are off the books.

3 years until Umberger (4.6M), Streit (5.25M), Pronger (4.94M) are off the books.

4 years until Lecavalier (4.5M) is off the books.

Very slim chance another team takes any of those contracts off the Flyers hands and if they do the Flyers will get no value in return. Those contracts will and are affecting the team from improving, trading and using prospects when they are ready.
