I have strange thoughts.

One of them is what kind of lover you are in bed. Not sure why but it would be interesting to see I believe.

Anything he's told in bed is heresay unless the girl can produce 7 sets of documentation to confirm it.

First thing I want to say is that I like Akeson, and think that he has potential. And I'm no where near ready to give up on him. But in all honesty, as an unproven NHL rookie, what has he done that is so great, that he should be immune to being scratched? What has he done to earn a full time spot in the lineup? And Berube is 100% correct in what he says about Akeson. Akeson is not that skilled offensively, where he can live on his offensive ability, and build an NHL career off of that. Most likely, he offensive game alone will give him a better chance of being a career AHL player, then a full time NHL player. However, Akeson with an improved game away from the puck, and stronger on the puck, along with his offensive skill, gives Akeson a far better chance of building an NHL career. So Berube is not trying to make Akeson into something he's not. He's trying to get him to improve other areas, so he can be a full time NHL play.

I understand, but I don't agree with Berube's assessment of the player and needing to single him out, of all players, as an example...from what I've seen Akeson has worked hard to improve his all around game and works hard every shift. He's paid his dues, done what was asked and plays hard every shift. I was actually impressed with his play (as miscast as it was) as a fourth liner...he was skating and hitting and driving possession and again, that line let in zero goals...Berube singling him for his game (oooo one turnover!) while playing well in a miscast role just doesn't instill me with a lot of confidence that he knows what he's doing.

I'm all for a player like Akeson improving his game, but that isn't going happen sitting in the Cote suite. I don't like it. I don't like the message it sends to the team or the player.

I'll prepare you for the amazing conversations you'll be told, willingly or not:

Young man, let me tell you, (not-so-gentle slap to thigh) let me tell you about the little boy next door. It's the darndest thing, don't you know, he likes The Simpsons. Now, I don't know what that is, but he thinks it's the greatest. Now, the other day he was watching The Simpsons, and the rain shut down the power. So he couldn't watch The Simpsons. Isn't that just the darndest!?

Akeson has played what, 12 NHL games? How has he payed his dues? I didn't think he was bad, I thought he was just okay. And honestly, there was nothing impressive about his play. I thought he was soft and wasn't getting involved enough. And if we want to look at possession numbers, which I'm not a beleiver in for individual players, Bellmare and Rinaldo were the players driving possession. They were far better then Akeson was. And really although I think it's part of it, but I don't think it was so much Akeson's play, that got him scratched, But Berube wanting a different kind of player in there, which is why Vandelvelde was called up to play center.
I don't see what kind of poor message is being sent to the team because they scratched a rookie for a few games. And the message that is sent to Akeson, is to work hard and take advantage when he gets back in the lineup.

And honestly, what I think is going to happen is that at some point during the season. Whether it's due to injury, or another player is struggling. Akeson is going to get a shot in a more offensive role. And he'll have to take advantage of that. And really if Akeson is the player you think he is, he will.

To me, it's the mindset that is the issue. A guy like Akeson seems to have to do more or be more than a plug like Rinaldo to get in, and stay in, the lineup.

Akeson, despite being miscast on an energy line, has played well. For the argument that he hasn't done enough to cement a spot, I say he hasn't done anything to deserve being scratched, either.

VdV and Jones were poor last night. Time to bring back Akeson.
