I am glad they got taken behind the woodshed last night. Up until last night they have played horrible team D and been able to have a chance to win every game. Maybe this is a wake up call that they doo have to get thier game together and stop standing around, making bad passes, and chasing the puck around in the D zone and start covering a man.

The offense is good enough to score goals, guys will be hot and cold all season, but there is enough talent to get the puck in the net most nights...but without the team D approach they are hosed, they can't leave Mase or Razor to hang out to dry every night and think that they are going to keep the game close...

Zero offensive zone starts last night. If you're going to do that you may as well trade couturier while he still has value and then you can go out and sign a good veteran defensive center & not give him any O zone starts

Wow I wasn't a fan of Berube's last year (I thought he got very lucky with many of his moves) and hearing that only makes things worse.

This warms my heart.

Is that agreeing?

I am not even an Akeson fan but I think Couturier needs better wings. And Bellemore has been fine defensivly to take on more of that role. My hope is that evetually Giroux and Couturier are 1-2 centers and then Laughton center ths third line with guys like Leirer and Alderson or Cousins and make what the devils used to have. The devils team used to throw a third line of Brylin - Madden - Pandolfo out to play shutdown role. That is what I hope from Laughton

8-22 as PK tandem needs to stop, too.

A smart coach would bench Rinaldo in this one.

- Tomahawk

I saw last night or this morning on Twitter that the Flyers are taking 14 minor penalties and Rinaldo had four of them

I love it, actually.

Schenn/Coots displayed solid chemistry before in ADK and Akeson was wrongfully convicted and imprisonment in chateau bowwow.... free Arty!

You would still like to see some more offense out of them.....but yeah, Berube isn't doing anything to help them out...Any of them.

Complaining about the third line is kinda ridiculous.

- MBFlyerfan

The forwards with a higher Corsi Rel QoC than Couturier and Read this year are (minimum 4 games): Roussel (4 pts), Fehr (2), Eakin (3), Garbutt (4), Zuccarello (1), Backstrom (5), Ovechkin (6), Silfverberg (3), Brassard (4), William Karlsson (2), Cogliano (1), Little (4), Zubrus (1) and Franzen (5).

Couturier has 2 points and Read has 3. The players with more defensive zone starts than Couturier? Eric Nystrom, Paul Gaustad, Matt Hendricks, Boyd Gordon, Jesse Joensuu, Adam Burish, Andrew Desjardins, Jay McClement, Dominic Moore, Manny Malholtra and Zac Rinaldo. Add David Legwand, Brandon Prust, Dale Weise, Zach Smith and Brad Malone ahead of Matt Read.

Not a lot of offense in this group.

It's true. If this is how they are going to handle Coots than it's much more beneficial to the team to move him for a legit D man and give Laughton that assignment.

Berube is really infuriating me by how he's handled Coots.

He was the scapegoat. Not sure how drawing less penalties and taking less penalties will help a team that isn't good at even strength
- PhillySportsGuy

I think people were just reaching in an effort to rationalize the trade in on-ice terms.

When it was a pure, dispassionate contract dump.

But Schenn also needs to pick up his game too. Too many times he just isn't engaged and seems to coast. The only players so far I have seen really moving and trying to stay engaged in the games are Voracek, Couturier, Bellemare and the 4th line guys. Too many people seem to diappear far to often

Yeah and how is it beneficial? You don't just move talented 20 year olds. Kid excels in his defensive game, which is hard to teach players, and he has tools to be a good second line center. Getting him scoring wingers will help.

I think Murray would be horrible with this group. Honestly, they really do need someone with a system more like Lavi's.

IMO, a lot of guys are having the odds stacked against them.

We've talked about the zone-start/usage issue w/ Coots/Read. Schenn at LW. Raffl as a weak-link on the top-line. MDZ saddled w/ Schenn. Over-extending everybody in the top-4. A return to an extremely limited 4th-line drags all the other F lines down.

There are definitely ways of shuffling this limited deck in a more efficient/sensible way. It's now up to Chief to find 'em. Or he's cooked.

No. Getting him starts in the offensive, or hell, even the neutral zone will help. Its starting to become abundantly clear thst Berube has zero interest in exploring that. So you might as well maximize his value by getting a player you actually plan to utilize.

I really dont hope they move him. But with Berube's plan in place he's a squandered asset.

That was one of my issues yesterday, Berube's putting getting wins with a mediocre team now ahead of the future development of one of the Flyers key cornerstone pieces.

If all you're going to let him be is Steve Kasper or Guy Carbonneau then trade him now and get a good asset for him while he has a lot of value.

Offense is not this teams problem, Team D is. Until yesterdays blanking, the Flyers were #3/4 in the league in goals per game at 3.4 and that is with the one goal game against Boston...

Without a commitment to skating hard every shift like Jake does, there is not enough hustle to stay in good defensive position to prevent the goals we have given up...this team needs a Pete Rose/Charlie Hustle mentality to their back checking and Team D, too many guys watching.

There are enough guys on this team to be a contender, no reason for any trades, just need the effort from them...it appears to me that Chief may be losing this team already and they are not listening/buying what he is selling...

What about Read? He only has 7 shots and has gotten 4 and half minutes more ice time per game than Umberger.

Time for a big change.
