The only goalie we may rather have on that list is Niemi. He is 2 years older than flower and probably cost just as much. - joescullz
He is just as much as a nightmare in the playoffs as Fleury. Look at the Sharks last few seasons. |

Just got done watching the last two periods of Wilkes-Barre's game in Albany. Pens got beat 4-0 in an pretty uninspired game. A few notes...
Pouliot - Gets a pass because it's his first live action, but he didn't look great. Good vision and seems to have good hands, but much slower than I thought. He got completely toasted by Paul Thompson, and Reid Boucher snuck in behind him for a breakaway that ended with Zatkoff likely blowing out his knee.
Megna - He's that really fast guy in your men's league who can probably do trick shots in warmups, but can't control a puck to save his life in a game.
Uher - I've always liked him since he was drafted, but he's not a good hockey player. Looked like Craig Adams out there.
Matt Murray - Came in in relief of injured Zatkoff. Looks big in net.. seems pretty quick, but let a floater in late from the top of the circle... visions of Tom Barrasso.
Scott Harrington - Not a great game.... probably some rust there too, but didn't look all that sharp
Bryan Rust - Reminds me of Tyler Kennedy. Fast, goes to the net, always around the puck, but not much happened with it. Could be a good energy player.
Scott Wilson - I liked him... nifty looking player. Didn't get any great scoring chances, but generated some offense. Him and Rust out there together always ended up their shifts with an offensive zone faceoff.
Samuelsson - Reminds me of a better skating Scuderi (the good version). Not great vision, always made the safe play to get the puck out, but didn't really generate any offense.
Bobby Farnham - A joke... Went right for Darcy Zajac with a minute left and then proceeded to get his ass beat... Soundly.
Chorney - Liked his game... good skater, good with puck, solid depth guy. Very nice pick up for organization.
Dumoulin - Hands down best player of the night for me. Likes to shoot & has a good shot. Fast skater for a big guy. Made a lot of very smart little plays all night both with and away from the puck.
Team looked like a Dan Bylsma team... Small, fast, and not all that skilled. Not sure why they didn't dress Dea or Zlobin, but that team could have used some talent up front. |

I don't see this team handing him a big, long term contract. Regardless of how he plays this year. The FA market isn't great, but it will cripple the team through the rest of Sid and Geno's prime.
Flyers taking a beating in Chicago so far. That always makes me smile. |

I've been a big Fleury supporter over the years... Last two not so much and I am ready to move on. I would like the Pens to give Greiss a shot and perhaps see if Vancouver would trade Eddie Lack. Those two goalies would be an awesome tandem and we could see who could develop as a starter. |

Thanks for the info. Harrington and Pouliot not having good games sux.
Perhaps Zlobin and Dea might be injuried. And I thought Hartzell was supposed to be a goalie for the future. Also Murray looks better than Jarry apparently.

They aren't trading Lack. That is why they put Markstrom on waivers. |

Hopefully Rutherford will not "Show him the MONEY". Talk is cheap and Rutherford knows a bargain apparently. I hope. |

I think Fleu could get signed short term ~3 years-ish because there's nothing better out there, but he certainly hasn't earned a raise. |

I'm calling this a next offseason move. Eddie wants to be a starter and if he doesn't perform in Millers shadow than he could be traded then.
Markstrom was put on waivers cause he is awful and no one even wanted to claim him. |

Wasn't Markstrom a high draft pick? Does he suck that much? A change of scenary would do well for him. I know he just left Florida but still. |

3 years @ $4M/per should do it for me. At least that's what I'd pay the most. |

That won't get it done. Like every other FA, he will try to cash in on his last big deal. He'll want a longer term and more money. I don't see any way they chose to make that commitment to a guy that has been so inconsistent every spring.
I've generally been a fan of MAF's because I blame some of his issues with poor defensive structure of the last regime, but he'll be playing elsewhere next year. |

I've got as much confidence in Fleury as I did with Barrasso after the rat series. I wish he could figure it out and go all 2008 for us 'cause I really like the guy. |

Maybe. Maybe Linden learned from the Lu/Schneider fiasco, but I think that they are looking to keep Eddie Lack at this time. |

If JIM R is smart he should shut the hell up. You can get a lot better for 5mill a year in goal. He is just not worth it. Good talent no helmet I pass on MAF Will never trust the guy again. Neither does Team Canada. And that my friends the the absolute TRUTH |

Cam Ward:
2005-2006 - 3.68 - .882
2006-2007 - 2.93 - .897
2007-2008 - 2.75 - .904
2008-2009 - 2.44 - .916
September 2009 - Rutherford signs him to a 6 year, 37.8 mil contract. - hardnosed
If it were anyone other than Rutherford, I'd not worry about these statements. However, this clown is probably 2nd only to Holmgren and Gillies in screwing up a team's goaltending situation.
Hopefully, the rest of the management group convince him that an Etch a Sketch is the iPad with the new contract for MAF...he can sign that all day! |

I dont understand this comment at all. Does no one on here remember just how good Ward was? He has run into some injury problems that unfortunately have drastically affected his career and now his contract looks like crap. But at the time, this was a no brainer to lock him up long term.
Personally I would like the Pens to let Fleury walk, he's just cursed, goes back to his Junior days (see gold medal game vs USA) its just alwasy there. He always seems to make a stupid decision or let in a soft goal at the absolute worst possible momment. As a goalie I would like to see Fleury get a fresh start.
But who takes over?

I certainly hope so.... Not only did Gillis screw up once by trading the wrong goalie initially but he utterly failed in trading the second goalie on top of that and getting no return. Its all Keslers fault for sleeping around too much |

I call BS
Rutherford almost traded Neal for PA Parenteau and Colorado's 1st, so he could then package our first and the Colorado first and send it to Nashville for #11 so he could pick Kaspari Kapanen
The net result of the Neal trade was ALMOST Parenteau (who was practically given away a month later) and Kapanen, and thats it
GMJR sucks and I don't trust him, look at the hot mess Carolina is in only 1 year removed.... |

Fleury is his guy for this year and the playoffs. I agree with Ryan, if the decision to keep him has already been made he would be signed already.
Fleury and the Pens as a whole have wilted each year in the playoffs during the Dan Bylsma era. Don't forget they almost had a complete meltdown against Detroit before Mario stepped in. We all have our opinions on the root cause. As of right now this regime has changed several things, but what hasn't changed is the big money players. Crosby, Malkin and Letang have several years left on their contracts and are staying. Martin and Fleury are pending UFA's and are being evaluated as such. How this regime handles these two players will go a long way in determining how they are perceived across the league and if players will come here when given the opportunity. |

OK, we have an actual hockey game tonight. Long wait in between games these days. AND it's against our old enemy the Flyers. I imagine this should get the boys going. Looks like the Flyers played last night. It did not go well for the men in creamsicle colors, they got licked! *rimshot*
