Having a continuous turnover of players, bringing in prospects every year or two is the only way to go. Not necessarily saying put guys in that are far from ready but until some of these guys are given an opportunity, we will continue with the safer bet of going with Higgins on the 2nd line.

It would be easier if we had another 'sniper' on the 2nd line so it would be
25goal guy Bonino Jensen
and Jensen wouldn't have the pressure to necessarily be a 20+ goal scorer right away. Maybe Higgins is the only real scoring option for the second line at this time, more so than Burrows, which sucks.

Fecking Tuesdays.

Some of the development needed for these young guys has to be at the NHL level and in a role they are suited to play.

Maybe having Vey on the second line is what I am looking for if they are not bringing anyone up from Utica, think he could create more offense there... Guessing we will see WD shuffling the lines more to get more offense as needed.

Have to go with the rookie(s) sometime or the team just gets older w/o any new blood.

If the team is struggling to score goals I think we will see someone from Utica. Until then, our roster is set

Yup, don't expect a lot of change other than a few young guys coming up from Utica. We're only four games in though, let's see where we're at at the end of the month.

Absolutely. Not only do we need a larger sample size of the big club, but we also need to see how the young guys are doing as pros before we do anything.

Burrows is one of the big question marks when it comes to scoring. Want to see him bounce back but really don't see him scoring more than 20 and guessing we should be happy if it is 15 or more after last year.

Higgins can't be expected to contribute much more than Burrows.

Bonino needs some finishers with him or he won't come any where near what he produced last season.

So if the 2nd line as we see it can't get it done, I expect Vey to get a shot on wing and maybe Jensen. We have one #1 line and three #3 lines. And it gets even harder for the 1st line to score because all the focus is on them.

I'd feel better about missing the playoffs if we were using some youngsters in roles getting them experience compared to similar results with older players. I don't want to see the young guys totally in over their heads but an opportunity to learn and develop should be there.

Yeah it's early.

I'm just going to wait and see what happens over the next month before passing judgment. Burrows and Higgins have both consistently put up decent numbers WRT goals so who knows

That is better. Can the Oil throw in some old Stortini gear and a signed pic of Kevin Lowe to make it a fair trade?

Pregame just coming on Shaw cable channel 302... I hope whoever is hiring these young lady commentators is making them earn their jobs... that blonde have fake lips?

I agree with the loss of tanev hurting but the Canucks seem to be able to sign free agent d men fairly easily ...if you have a chance to aquire an eberle type you do it

I think the oilers would want too much for him anyways though

Given the state of the franchise they need to hit a home run if they trade Eberle. Yakupov is the more likely winger to be dealt IMO. And if they do trade Yaks then Eberle isn't going anywhere.

According to Lavoie there is lots of interest right now in Yakupov

Let's be honest, it's the oilers. They don't have the balls to pull a home run type of deal. It will be more along the lines of a Gagner for Purcell trade.

The oil will start to win a few games, everything will seem better, MacT and the gang will pat each other on the backs, and in the end they will still finish bottom 5 and end up with a great draft possession.

This season will be no different than the last four.

Eklund concurs.

But seriously, Lavoie is definitely one of those guys you'd listen to. If he's saying it, it's likely so. I heard a Yakupov for Gardiner rumor today. Could you imagine offering a team before the draft Jake Gardiner for the #1 overall pick? At this point however, it seems not entirely impossible.

Yea I generally don't put any weight into rumours that don't come from guys like Lavoie or Bobby Mac. I know Edmonton needs D-men but I don't think they need an inconsistent type like Gardiner. Honestly, Yak for the Schenns might not be a bad idea for both clubs

Agreed that it would be a fair move but PHI need D help almost as bad as EDM. If either team is trading either player, I'd imagine it would be for their most urgent need.
