No chance that either Ramo or Hiller keeps up the save percentage they have thus far this season. Painful to think that what we are seeing now is likely the best the flames will be all year and when the goalies come back down they will likely be allowing 3 to 4 goals every game. Going to be a long season.
- Jacee68

Ramo's play this season has just been a continuation of his play last season once he was given the starter role. I don't think there's any reason to conclude that his current play is an unrealistic representation of his abilities.

Hiller has been very lucky with bounces, on the other hand, so I do expect a bit of a drop. That said, his save percentage hasn't ever really been below .910, so it shouldn't drop too far.

Much to early to worry about a draft position?? hahah it's the only thing we've got going for us this year. We're obviously not making the playoffs.. so what else is there to cheer for? Beating the Oilers... Beating the Canucks.. and Mcdavid.
- RazzDazzle

disagree with you there. like last year we have some great hockey being played.

A team that is always a potential spoiler for a top team.

I'd rather see that then cheer for a tank to happen. That can be left to carolina and buffalo

I hear you, but maybe we just need to get past this idea that tanking is the only way to become relevant again.

If you look at the Flames of the 80's we did not have a #1 overall, but we still managed to win a cup and be a mean-assed team to play against. I think we are on a similar path.

Lets hope BT can take advantage of some trades and and our scouts find one or two gems in the later rounds.

MGMT has iced a good product with what most other teams fan bases consider a bunch of scrubs, lets hope the current attitude of the club is something that remains at the heart of Flames hockey.

We all shouldn't act so shocked. Look at their record since the end of December last year. It's remarkable. THEY AREN'T THAT BAD

People just like to look at the team on paper without actually watching them and assume they are terrible

Outside of a 7-8 game stretch last year where they couldn't score this team has played exciting hockey and been in pretty much every game

As for the goaltending we are all of the sudden getting ...ramo has been playing like this since January ...and hillier is a good goalie who just got beat out by the future of the Ducks ...this has happened many times before

The McDavid thing is a pipe dream unless they get crushed by injuries or they get lucky in the lottery.

That's the thing will this team ...if they can avoid injuries they have a good enough team to compete every night ...one or two injuries and they can quickly become a lottery team

Look at their record with and without gio last year

I am excited by the fact that we're doing a lottery for each of the first few (can't remember if it's 3 or 5 or just 2) spots this season. If we finish second last, McDavid and Eichel aren't out of the question. I just hope we keep playing fun hockey and our young kids put up points.

What else is there to cheer for?

Work ethic. Development of the young players. The development of the needed culture and drive that will be necessary when this team is ready.

Winning team or losing team those details are essential and critical. The second you believe that they are not, you become the Edmonton Oilers.

if we finish 2nd last it will be either eichel or mcdavid, thats a given.

I don't think we'll be that low though.

lol Go work ethic go!!

I do get your point, but I disagree that it's something to cheer for. The goal is to win games and win the cup. I'm not cheering for work ethic and good development, I want to see the flames win the cup!

You can cheer all you want for work ethic and development, but it's a much easier road if we had a Crosby on our team. I'm tired of seeing Calgary miss the playoffs and cheering for another Canadian team. Hard work and effort is great, but a player like McDavid that can potentially make us a contender every year in my opinion is something to actually get excited about this year rather than another year of hard working, good development and above Oilers results.

I believe the Flames are on the right path.. we have some great players coming up and will definitely be a great team in the future.. but while we're poopty during the rebuilding process I'm cheering for them to tank to get Mcdavid. They really only have this year to do it, because next year they might have a chance at the playoffs.

sigh...when did tanking become something to cheer for. I must be getting old since I don't get when failing ever was considered a good thing.

I get that its the easy route to a good player....but that route has only worked once (for pitts). And that feeling in a locker room is not a good thing to have around when developing players

Kind of a band wagon mentality that you just described yourself as. "I only cheer if we have a chance and have star players"....I guess you'll be full on in 2-3 years when they are in the playoffs again

You're right. Teams like LA and Boston who never had a first overall, generational player don't ever get anywhere. Two perfect examples of how no matter what kind of winning culture you generate, at the end of the day you can never be truly elite without top picks.

It's all about creating a culture, a winning mentality, and a team identity. You can't just tank, draft McDavid, then flip the switch and make the playoffs next year. You're dreaming.

You guys are missing the point...

We didn't trade away Iginla, Bouwmeester, etc. for future picks and prospects as a strategy to win. It's expected that we're going to lose so and we can get rebuild our team with up and coming talent. So with that being the flames strategy it would make sense to get the best player available! So that's what I'm cheering for.

How many points do you think the flames will finish above last place this year? 10points? so 5 games?

We already have the winning culture, the work ethic, the development.. we just need to lose 5 more games. I still want to kill the Oilers and the Canucks.. so we lose an extra 5 games to the teams that got better in the West. I don't understand why you guys are getting your panties in a bunch.. it's pretty logical if you take a few moments to look at the big picture and take a step off the "Godreau" hype train.

oh ya totally bandwagon mentality... It makes so much sense to trade Iginla and Bouwmeester away just to finish a couple positions lower in the draft and not make the playoffs for the next 5-6 years.

Real bandwagon of me to hope that the strategy of trading our star players away and tanking for a couple seasons to draft the best up and coming players in the draft actually happens.

I think you're the one thats stuck on hype. Until last year, there was no winning culture.

Everyone else here seems happy that the teams winning and playing enjoyable hockey, after a decade of pretty effortless, emotionless play.

2004 was a work ethic taking us to the final. There was no epic franchising turning pick.

JG is just fun to watch develop, seems like its everyone outside of the HB flames fan base saying he's the team saviour. He'll be good, but he's a epic in the rebuild, not the player to build around. Add in Monahan and bennet. And the steps forward that raymond, brodie and colborne made. This model of winning seems to be working just fine. Right now we're looking ahead of edmonton, buffalo...two teams that used your cheer for tanking approach.

Not panning out so well since they now have to try to build a winning culture after years of suck

I don't even know what you're talking about anymore... (frank) off I'm cheering for Mcdavid. Getting a T-Shirt made and wearing it to all the games just to piss you guys off.

If they don't change anything and happen to lose a bunch a games then so be it...but I am not going to hope they lose, or do anything that resembles intentionally losing.
