Lol.

Agree to disagree.

How so? Winnipeg has a very good group of young D who are just starting to emerge onto the roster anchored by good vets. They have a group of fairly young forwards also just emerging onto the roster which is filled in with good vets. The one thing the Flyers have over them right now is a dynamic Hart Trophy finalist in Claude Giroux and a better goalie in Steve Mason.

The Flyers are a lesser talented team then some teams, especially Chicago. Which is why they have to compete and play with urgency to have a chance. The Flyers don't have mediocre coaching or poor tactics.

What type of coaching and tactics, do the flyers have?

This makes zero sense and really doesn't have anything to do with the post you quoted. What are you most interested in talking about? The game and how they played, or are you just focused on the poster?
- MJL

Im focused a team that has way to many 3rd-4th liners, and 3rd pair d-men.

We can play hard every single game (and this does not excuse the poor effort last night), but we still will be a mediocre team.

No I'm not wrong. They did not match the skating and work ethic in the first period and later in the game. If you think they did, then that is bullpoop, and you're wrong about that. The coach even stated that they were like a deer in the headlights in the first period. And I agree about the breakdowns, that is also an issue. But the shots were 8-1 I think when Berube called time out. And I don't know if you watched the game or not, but Therien was between the benches and relayed what Berube was saying to the team. And his message was along the same lines as what I'm saying. They weren't competing, weren't skating, and weren't playing hard enough. And the weren't shooting the puck.
- MJL

take them off ... .... its so bad even meltzer doesnt feel like writing about them.... (usually his blogs are in before 9)

No matter how hard they play, this current roster is what it is. Solid up front and in goal and crappy on D. With everyone healthy and firing on all cylinders, they are a 92-95 point club at best. Factor in injuries, they'll be lucky to break 85
- BiggE

Agree.

This team is just not getting the most out of its top players. I thought Simmonds, Giroux, Schenn and Read out of the forwards were supbar. As much as no one looked great at least i aw Couturier engaging toews and anyone else close seemingly trying to get the team going. I think he was even trying to get Toews to drop the gloves one shift.

Our role players can only do so much and I actually don't think they have been a problem. Last night was a night that one of your top end players needs to do something.

Also if we want to keep saying Read needs to be on the first line i need to see more from him. So far this year I feel like he is just "meh" out there. Nothing terrible but nothing to make me say he can't be traded either.

It's also amplified by when your team has a general deficiency in talent, mediocre coaching, and/or poor tactics.
- Tomahawk

We have two D pairings that just don't gel together.

MacDonald-Coburn
MDZ-Schenn

If those are the pairings when Coburn is fit then I'm jumping on the Fire Berube bandwagon.

Score effects = human nature.

Has nothing to do w math... it's no different than the old "two-goal lead is the worst lead in hockey" saying. Just a more elegant/encapsulating way to relay the idea.

- Tomahawk

On a side note, I never got that "2 goal lead is the worst lead." Not because it may be false, but more because you can never lose a lead with a 2 goal lead, you can only lose a lead when you're ahead by one goal. I understand the premise (complacency without a sufficient buffer), but the saying just seems like a fallacy in itself.

Anytime you want to discuss anything about analytics, let me know. And you'll find out that I'm as well informed on them as any fan. The difference is that I know their relevance to the game. And I put them in their proper place and give them the proper weight. Where as for some, every point of analysis has analytics behind it. And I think that's just because they can't spot or see the things on the ice that really truly matter.
- MJL

Which pairings do look good? Please tell me how to properly allocate our amazing defense so that they all become Norris material.

Regarding Read -- in his defense, he had 0 offensive zone starts last night. It's hard to do much when you have to go 200 ft against the Hawks.

YOU ARE ALL ARGUING THE SAME POINTS!

You simply fail to see it because you just want to argue.

No, the team is not a very good one right now and lost to a better team.

The team did not play very competitively last night overall.

MDZ is a 4th forward like Meszaros. Pairing him with LSchenn has had predictably disastrous results. Either play MDZ with Coburn who is our only D with the wheels to cover for him, or bench MDZ.

I think I'm already there... Couturier/Read/Umberger didn't see a single Off-ZS the entire game... like wtf.

They're all coming to the same conclusion but in different ways, more or less, so that's really what's being argued. Plus some of the principles behind it. Also, there is bad blood.

That's the problem. There is no good way to play them because they are a deficient group overall. Hiding one weakness will expose another. There might be marginally better ways to utilize them, but if left to fend for themselves, they just can't cut it no matter how you arrange them.

Same two people every day.

It's like arguing using a plastic knife as opposed to a metal knife to spread peanut butter in a sandwich.

Actually, it's nothing like that. I just can't think of a good analogy.
