According to Joel Quenneville, it means Crawford has an upper body injury
- Jsaquella

I meant, not sure what that means for the Flyers.

Q said Crawford has upper body injury and a few other reports said he was ill. Maybe it's both.

Would something like the flu be considered an upper body injury? Maybe whole body.

Trevor van rimmy. I wonder how he is making out.
- rinaldo

Yes, I can't wait until we trade Brayden Schenn for Trevor Van Riemsdyk, straight up and lose two consecutive trades involving a Van Riemsdyk and a Schenn.

Stamkos is the better purely offensive player imo. Younger too I think.

Kane
.34 Goals Avg (best season, 30)
.61 Asst Avg (58)
.96 PPG Avg (88)

Stammer
.57 GPG (best was 60)
.46 APG (47)
1.04 PPG (97 - and many more in the 90s)

While Kane makes great passes, stammer is far far and away the better goal scorer and offensive point getter. Both are fast, agile players. Stamkos plays more physically.

- moylander

How about per 60?

He's played well so far, which is good for the hawks because now they don't have to hope Rundblad pans out, which is looking less and less likely

He's looked "not out of place" and hasnt made many bad decisions. Looks like a solid pickup

Could be...scoring hasn't been the Flyers issue. Since the Boston game, they've had 16 goals in 4 games. Far more worried about Kane, Toews, Sharp & Hossa shredding the defense for 6 or 7 goals...my bad misunderstood you

A short leash is one thing, but thus is a kid they have repeatedly stressed is untouchable, and the way they use him has done little to help his development.

I fully agree Schenn didn't look good, quite frankly, neither did Giroux or Voracek. But if you're going to give a kid a shot, make it more than a game and a half. I'm more worried about the long term development of Schenn than the short term aspect of a guy having to work out the kinks with little pre-season work.

- Jsaquella

Of course a game and a half is not enough time to determine whether or not he belongs on a particular line, but you would think or hope that they know what they're doing with the kid. From what I see, the kid lacks a hunger for the puck and playmaking ability. I rarely see him carry a puck and try to make something out of nothing like other good young players. I'm sorry, but if you're touted as one of the core youth of this team, you better show you want the puck (see Matt Read)! I'm surprised by the amount of ice time he gets.

I criticize Baby Schenn as much as anyone and I don't think we have enough data to know this. Berube obviously disagrees and, if I'm not mistaken, so did Peter Laviolette, who I'm pretty sure had Schenn on the top line to start last season too, before he got poopcanned (maybe I'm misremembering).

The problem with Brayden Schenn is that I think he needs to play with people that complement what he does well. He's good at finding open spaces, he'll go to the net, and he's got a good shot. But, he doesn't skate well. And he really can't make his own shot. He's an OK passer.

At this point, I'd like to see them find a role for him and let him stay there for awhile.

- johndewar

I agree with most of what you said, but the concerning part is staying on the line and getting moved off by different coaches. I think he would be better off on more of a grit/sandpaper line that has an ability to contribute offensively every once in awhile, much like a Talbot.

He does show a hunger for the puck at times, and at other times he's very active on the forecheck and playing physical.

I really worry that all the bouncing around has him overthinking things out there and what looks like lack of effort is really just hesitation from not being confident or sure of himself.

That's the main reason I would have liked to see him stick with Giroux's line. Hartnell thrived there and he plays a very simple game. That's what I think Schenn needs to do, stop thinking, go to the net and battle.

Also looks like Coburn is not skating with a regular D partner, which might mean he is out tonight? This is per Panotch, though, so who really knows.

I wouldn't have a problem splitting up Girooux and Voracek. But moving either Lecavalier or Umberger to the 4th line is a mistake in my opinion. Lecavalier looked strong before the injury, and the team misses his offensive presence. And Umberger is a good fit with Couturier and Read.
- MJL

It would be ice to get a good game out of Umberger. His -5 isn't cutting it, it's only 5 games but he really has not done a thing.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Sure, he was used for a game and a half, but he also has 180+ games under his belt as a Flyer. Can't dismiss the fact coaches see him during practice as well. Chemistry, work ethic and execution plays a part in these decisions as well.

Agreed. He doesn't have the bull strength that Hartnell did, but he should be able to play a somewhat similar role.
