Do yourself a favor and don't... I just made that mistake.

I think ol Johnny's standards have just dropped over the years.

Whereas Chris Vande Velde has played almost 50 career NHL games and has been irrelevant in almost all of them.

Bench Akeson for Laughton, or Leier, or Cousins.... fine. But for VDV? Yuck.

- Tomahawk

at least it's not for (frank)ing rosemont. so we have that going for us...which is nice.

No but you can't ignore practice either. Also he has had 4 games this year so far and they have been ok. But nothing telling me I need to see more.

And hell i wou8ld rather have laughton or Lerier up too but we can't have it both ways. We either let them develop and be patiet or we bring up a guy like Vandavelde and let him play 4th line roll and minutes.

- J35Bacher

Or, just keep Akeson in the lineup because he's been pretty solid thus far and should get a longer look. The 4th line looked fine with Akeson on it. It looked fine with VandeVelde. Why not keep using the guy who is younger and hasn't had an extended NHL stint over the older guy who has?

There were a couple that she looked OK in, and a few more where...well, she didn't.

Hextall took that decision completely out of Berube's hands.

Small favors. Just wait until Giroux gets punched after a scrum

I saw a recent picture of Molly Ringwald and remember thinking that she is better looking now than when she was in every movie from my teenage years.
- johndewar

i recently saw a show about her current life - she's a jazz singer - and thought she's better looking now than she was as a teen.

Complete mischaracterization ond over-exaggeration of a point made by others he disagrees with.

I disagree with Berube's usage of some players. I think the younger players would be better served in other ways. It's not puzzling or blasphemy that Berube does what he does. I understand what he's doing. I just disagree with it and wish he was more patient with certain guys.

Nothing really outrageous there, but when you mischaracterize it and over-exaggerate it, it sounds terrible.

- Jsaquella

It's not a mischaracterization or an over-exaggeration. When you criticize a coach when he is making sound decisions in how he coaches and uses players. And use that to say that he isn't a good coach and you don't like him as a coach. Then that is the only thing that is off base. It sounds terrible because it is. And the criticism is baseless in my opinion. And is just more in line with the negative atmosphere in here that has been created about the team, 5 games into the NHL season.

Haven't seen it yet, but I look forward to it. I think Brad Pitt is a very good actor.

Even though he apparently had a freakout on set during the shooting of the movie, Shia Labeouf was also amazing.

Akeson has been no more then average, and hasn't earned a longer look. Nothing wrong with competition for icetime.

I wouldn't have a problem splitting up Girooux and Voracek. But moving either Lecavalier or Umberger to the 4th line is a mistake in my opinion. Lecavalier looked strong before the injury, and the team misses his offensive presence. And Umberger is a good fit with Couturier and Read.
- MJL

This post caught my eye.

I think some fans don't understand that there is a different between a top six forward and a bottom six forward. Simply slipping Umberger or Lecavalier to the fourth line doesn't answer any prayer. These are effective NHL expereinced players. They're not as young as they once were but they know their role better then any. In the years Hartnell was here and with all the screw ups he's had, do these fans think he was never demoted to a lesser role? He was but Hartnell is only going to ve effective in the top six as an offensive player.

Giving your worst even-strength players less even-strength icetime is a good plan in my books.

But I'm not an NHL head coach.

My thing with Akeson is not that I don't think he has skill. He does. But he just doesn't bring enough to the table. And right now the size and skating of VDV, Rinaldo and Jones is better against some of these physicall teams.
