Too bad we couldn't trade for a goal scoring second liner.
- thundachunk

We probably could, but it would be decimating an already thin prospect group and one of our top dmen. Who all hold NTC's...

I think you know how I feel about the team this year. Unlike most on this thread I still don't see this as a playoff team as is. Also I don't want to limp into the playoffs. If we can not compete as a top contender then I want a high draft pick .

I would also move Burrows and one of our top D men at TDL

- VANTEL

YOU also said Edmonton would be competing for a playoff spot

I would count on Horvat as a 3 Rd line centre for the next couple of years.
- VANTEL

Yes but he can move up and down the line up. He's good in the face of and defensively responsible.

Everyone.

If Edmonton is truly shopping players we should go after Ebrule and give them some depth.

Bieksa, Hamhuis and Edler all would bring good returns come TDL time, but I don't see any of them wanting to leave.

Slow start but they almost beat us twice and beat a team that beat us two nights ago.

They will fire the coach and things will straighten out

Beiksa imo is our franchise D keep him, Hamhuis would never waive he loves being close to home and is great for our depth. Edler could do with a change but he probably doesn't see it that way. Edler should be the guy we move but it won't happen.

MG interviewed Eakins a couple times and even he didn't like what he saw. Edmonton saw we were interested and jumped all over him without even going through much of a hiring process. Coaching is definitely an issue.(amongst other management issues) Krueger was showing promise after his lone season and and Mac T dumped him like a one nightstand.

Any idea what Lack is worth now or at tdl? Any chance we can get a 1st for him from a team desperate for goaltending?

So they'll be fine but we are destined to fail?

Eshhh, what happened to the Winter Hawks?

Last in the conference with 6 points in 12 games, Cederholm posting 2 goals and -7 in ten games.

Unless is Mcdavid?
- thundachunk

Nope. We need a defenceman. Trade the pick like Edmonton should have done. McDavid could be a bust, the next Daigle.

I'm going to screenshot this and save it for later
If you'll recall we almost beat the Kings a couple of times last year, I guess the Kings didn't make the playoffs and we did? Wait a second...

Just looking around the league, there are a few teams that should be interested...

I guess there are at least 2 knocks against Lack- hasn't had the opportunity to prove he is a #1 for any length of time and only has one more season after this 'til he is ufa.

Was thinking there are teams that may be looking for a goalie in the near future- Buffalo, Carolina, Edmonton, Minnesota, Philly, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Toronto, Washington and Winnipeg.

I know they all have goalies but may not be happy with the same guys in the future.

I think it is nice we have some depth between the pipes but it is frustrating when that depth isn't worth a whole lot on the market.

I think there would be interest, but until the goalie market sees some stimulation of value, there is no way a guy who is coming off of his first season garners a 1st

Just thinking of what the Avs paid for Varlamov... and Miller at tdl last year. Miller isn't really a fair comparison.

Was wondering when people say Eddie's demeanor is perfect for this market if others can't take him seriously?

Would have been happier with Lack in net- playoff bound or not. With Miller if we don't make the playoffs then Miller was a failed experiment. Does that make sense or fit in with today?

If Miller holds up his end of the bargain and plays well, then I disagree with you there. They brought Miller in the show the vets like Henrik and Daniel, Higgins, Burrows, Hammer, Bieksa etc that they still believed in them.

You can't go into the season with a veteran lineup and a goaltender who's played 41 NHL games.

Yep me too. If they weren't confident with the goaltending they should have gone after Hiller. Get someone cheap and willing to split significant time with Eddie. As far as value goes, think of the returns garnered for Fasth, Dubnyk, Berra, rather than in the ballpark of a Varlamov or a Miller. I wonder if the market would have been different if Gillis had accepted the rumoured deal for Schneider from the oilers which was I believe their first and Klefbom (correct me if I'm wrong)

Then sign Jonas Hiller for much less term/$$... Goaltending wasn't the issue last year. If we had more money to play with we may have been able to grab Iginla in addition to Vrbata. If we are going all in then put it where we need it (offense)

I don't see term being an issue? Hiller is signed for two years at 4.5, Miller for three years at 6. Ya they could have saved 1.5 million but they got the better goaltender, in their minds...which is what matters.

I think Iginla would have signed here if he really wanted to. But not for three years!!
