Game 5 of 82 don't forget.

Would you make a decision on buying a house if you only saw 6.1% of it? Nope. Sure maybe a change or two wouldn't be a bad idea, but to doom and gloom the season, might be a little early.

It's game 5 of this 82 but the team has the same issues of the previous 212 games played before this season.

Same excuses.
Same cliches.
Same narratives.
Same interviews.

LOL - seems to be autocorrect on the Buzz site

"poopty" ?

You should see what happens when you type "female dog" or... well... I can't seem to get it to censor that other word for some reason.

This is more than blame game, Pistol Pete - this is season #4 ... and we have seen much more than 6.1% !

This is bullish_t

I was being patient - through the trade deadline and last summer ... I was positive about the lineup heading into this season ... my wife and I were at the Preds game - - flat, uninspired, poopty

I was even on-board with the juggling of lines ... a wake up call of sorts

Is there anyone that can rush the puck ? Anyone ? ... "team defence ?!!?"

I sure the hell am not gonna spend $400/game (tix, parking, beers) to see the Jets gas another game and talk to the media about improvement

So - here we are:

1. bring Budaj up - play him several games - let's see what we have
2. stick the "C" on Wheels
3. Chevy - pack
4. Wheels, Little, and youngsters stay - bust up the rest of the 'Atlanta core' ... start from the goal line and work your way north

I hope like hell we go 4-1 in the next 5 and I come to my senses - however - no the start to the season we wanted

I like that Wheeler has seemed to have stuck in Winnipeg. I loved him here in Boston. I really wish he was still here on the wing with Krejci and Lucic. The effort was always there but he was still developing.

You're a (frank)ing idiot & nothing is going to save you. What a retard statement. We've completed 1 year of our rebuild & if Team Canada were picking a team right now, Gio/Brodie would be on it & I would match our goaltending combo's performance against anyones this year so far. How is this team a mess? Go eat some of Scooby's Doo!

Brodie the Olympian....that's funny.
Hand the Vezina to the flames, game 5 and the trophy is Hillers. Or is it Yogis?

The flames have been a mess for years, now with Monahan they are the class of the rebuilds? Please.

Wheeler seems to be filling a leadership void.

I like team captains who are visible; Chara, Iginla with the Flames, Brown, Toews (minus the penalty meltdown) .. all guys the rest of the team would follow into a war.

I like Ladd the player, not sure if I am sold on Ladd the Captain. He has been so quiet not only in words but on the ice. I remember rookie Scheifele getting nailed into the Jets bench and basically landing at Ladd's feet and it seemed like Ladd was more interested in watching the replay on the jumbotron.

This team doesn't stick together. Peluso will fight for anyone, but the rest of the Atlanta Association only seem to look out for each other. If you're a rookie or a fringe player, forget it. And leadership isn't just fighting obviously, but that scene where Ehlers was getting assaulted in the preseason while Thorburn just kind of watched told me everything I need to know. Some people said "well a guy had a hold of Thorburn." Baloney, that guy is 6'3 235lbs. If he wants to go he will go. He chose not to stick up for a kid that might take his job is what happened.

It seems to me that Wheeler has been stepping up and filling a leadership void on this team. His play is inspired, even if he is taking too many PIMS in the process.

True, but it's a new season. Let Kane come back, give the group 10 games before we all start tearing the team apart. If after 15 games on the season they're below 5 wins, blow it up. I agree with CorydonKeith on who should stay and who should go, and the idea floated around by a few to make Wheeler captain.

" Patrick Williams summed up the Jets build by saying they want to develop (the) current core group and one for the future. They ( the Jets) want it both ways and it's doubtful that it is a goal worth trying to achieve. Why?"

... Why not? In fact, it is the ONLY goal worth trying to achieve. To build a successful franchise that will contend for the long term you need to have a veteran core group and a "next wave" core group that hits their prime before the veteran core group starts to decline. You also need to keep both groups under contract for an overlapping time period. During this overlapping period you also need to have the right role players in place.

Chevy has identified his veteran core that remains from the Atlanta days and looks to have the " next wave" core of Scheifele, Trouba, Morrisey, Ehlers, Lowry, Petan, identified as well. The role players he has brought in ( Frolic, Perrault) are a major upgrade from the Wellwoods and Antropovs he inherited and have brought the experience from winning organizations with them.

Much has been made of Chevy's waiver wire pickups and league-minimum free agent signings - but they are what they are ... placeholders ... for another two years or so until the young core is ready, the veteran core is still under contract, and they are ready to make a serious push. That's when you'll see Chevy land a big name free agent and/ or goaltending help if Pavelec doesn't improve and none of the three young goalies in the system becomes elite.

This organization was a mess in Atlanta and had zero depth. The draft and develop plan will take time. Until then, be patient Jets fans. Chipman and Chevy know what they are doing. The Jets overlapping "cores" aren't ready to challenge Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas etc. ... yet.

Will this plan work? Will the two " core groups" be good enough to challenge for cups? Only time will tell ... but working toward developing two cores is the ONLY goal worth trying to achieve.
