Myers needs to net more than a prospect that hasn't played a game if we hold all the cards.

IMO a 2015 1st is a bad idea. When are we gonna be good? 2019?

We won't compete with a bunch of 21-22 year olds on our blueline.

I agree on all the 2015 1st. Unless you feel you are getting an upgrade on the blues or isles first and that is part of the swap with a prospect

Such as Myers plus blues 1st for x prospect and a 1st (to a team that is more on the playoff bubble). Or should I say isles 1st because currently the isles are better off. I just can't see that holding up

Am I missing something here with this whole Zadorov thing?

So he goes back to Russia for this year? What's the big deal?

We still retain his rights. I'm quite sure he wants to play in the best league in the world, so he'll be back next year.

Or is there more to it that I'm not seeing?

One benefit of Meyers is that he's locked up long term at a reasonable cap hit. Downside is his NTC kicks in in 2016. So, we nay hear about him being shopped for quite a while because TM doesn't want to be stuck with him until 2020. even if he improves greatly in the next year, TM may just not like that NTC. or, he plays so well that he doesn't care.

The big deal is they want to be the ones who dictate how he grows and progresses. In Russia they have no say and he will play in a league which is considered "lazy" defensively, less physical, and he will develop bad habits. Then he comes back to the nhl which is the complete opposite.

if it makes our team better, im open to anything at this point and i see why he would have to shop him this year due to the NTC. I like myers and think hes a great top pairing defenseman that eats up a lot of minutes but if you can find someone willing to trade a mantha or tofolli type player, i dont think you can refuse it.What I dont want to see is a defense for defense swap

Gotcha.

There were some on here earlier making statements like "keep him Buffalo or lose him forever", or something to that effect.

I was like, "What?!"

totally agree. I think Ruff/Rolston were the main cause of his play trailing off. I'm also not interested in having an entire team of 22 year olds, first rounders or not. Sooner or later, you have to give all those draft picks that were drafted within 3 years of each other contracts. Keeping Meyers makes a hell of a lot more sense than trading him unless we get offered something we just can't say no to.

The only way that would happen if it was his choice to stay there like kovalchuk did signing a monster contract.

edit: but why wouldnt he come back to the best league in the world

Yes exactly. Getting more picks or a prospect for a guy like myers at this point would be pretty ridiculous. We have 3 picks in 2015 and a slew of up and coming prospects in the juniors and ahl. We need to be thinking about the near future, not guys that wont be ready for a few years. Ive said this before and ill say it again, there has to be a point where you stop flipping players for draft picks or its going to turn into a constant cycle of rookies who dont mesh.

To me, Myers is the future. Let's just flip Weber.
