I agree. I'd be more prone to do what MB did last year and gear up at the deadline.

Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't wait for the deadline.

If they are in a good position around Christmas, I could see him getting ready for the playoffs way before the deadline.

I'm ok with it, if has the same type of impact the Vanek deal did. I guess the earlier he moves the more time he will have to judge a trades effect. I wouldn't do it for the sake of it though.

that's the point. Montreal or anyone in the East doesn't have to be better than SJ, Anaheim, LA, Chicago, etc. they have to be better than one of those teams for 10 days. and Montreal's window might never be more open than it is this year. no one knows what will happen 2-3 years down the road. maybe all the young talent in Tampa, Florida and Buffalo changes the landscape of the conference by then. it's not guarantee that Montreal will be better positioned in 2-3 years.

Teams like Chicago, LA or Pittsburgh are contenders every year because they are built around franchise players.

This kind of player do not become available often on the trade market.

Core franchise players.

Then you need a team around them.

We have Subban, Price and hopefully Galchenyuk. Even Pacioretty is pretty damn good. How'd Pitt do last season??

If he can get a top player on the cheap like last year, I agree. But it will be hard to do that 2 years in a row.

+, Yakupov would not be a rental.

Anyway, none of that will happen.

Exactly.

Franchise goaltender: Price
Franchise defenceman: Subban
Franchise center: Galchenyuk

Yakupov could be a franchise player.

Plekanec is not.

I get it. MacTavish has to be feeling some heat. I just don't think the Habs are as deep at C that they could afford to flip Plekanec and lose say DD or even Galchenyuk to injury.

Galchenyuk is not a franchise centre yet. I really like the way he has started out the season....but I think you're jumping the gun.

So why would EDM trade a franchise player for an old washeup up soft player like Plek ?
