Plekanec is exactly what they need.
- soad_live

Yeah. They have no one who has any idea how to play D there. Maybe he could take over coaching the PK too

My thumb is down to the Edmonton Oilers’ decision to select Nail Yakupov with the first pick of the 2012 NHL Draft. I know you’ve heard that before, the Oilers are sick of hearing it and Yakupov is burdened by it. Unfortunately for Yakupov, the criticism will continue until he gets a fresh start somewhere else and the Oilers address their pressing need for blue line help. The Oilers could have solved some of their defensive woes if they had used that 2012 pick to select Ryan Murray, Jacob Trouba, Olli Maatta, Morgan Rielly, Hampus Lindholm….the list goes on. In a strong class for defenceman, after years of using top-ten picks on forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, Magnus Paajarvi and Sam Gagner, it was time to take a blueliner. Instead, the Oilers took the only forward since Patrick Stefan in 1999 that did not warrant the No. 1 honour. It’s not that you can’t go wrong with the first pick, it’s that you can’t afford to.

Do you think that Yakupov can be a 35-40 goals scorer in this league?

sure....for one season of junior.

Not sure I buy that it would transfer over to success in the NHL. I suppose it could.

- yemrots

I think it would at least be part of the motivation for Montreal to trade for him. (well, if they indeed do have an interest at all)

yea the Habs need him more than a lazy bust Russian.
- BingoLady

While Yak would probably look great on a line with Chucky, I think Habs should first try to get a #3 RH dman.

he can and he SHOULD. but do you trade a guy who already is that (Max) for a guy who might become a bit better? it's a high risk move.

i don't think Montreal should be on the prowl for one-dimensional wingers. they look fine for the moment.

i think it's a deal that doesn't make sense. while Edmonton is desperately in need of someone like Pleks, dealing the 2012 #1 overall for a 31 year old who will likely be gone as UFA by the time they should be reasonably good? doesn't make sense. and for Montreal, a team with aspirations to contend for the conference and a SC berth, does it make sense to weaken yourself at the game's most pivotal position?
- scotch_tape

It's not gonna happen, of course. Oilers would target Tinordi and Tokarski. They should be after guys like Myers or Larsson.

Bourque Eller and Moen are the forwards that need to be shipped out of town ASAP.

Max?

I would not trade Pacioretty for Yakupov.

However, I would trade Plekanec for Yakupov.

always fun when you trade guys who can't play a decent role on the 3rd/4th line for guys who can.
