If arizona offered gormley, that doesnt tempt you?

What about a deal involving Roman Josi?

- stayinthefnnet

Gormley yes. I don't about josi.

No
Reluctant yes

Josi would cost a TON though, that's why it'd be reluctant. NSH would want something crazy like Ghost, Schenn, and a 2nd probably

- Giroux_Is_God

yeah, i think Josi has outplayed schenn's value. but thats the type of player it would take to grease the wheels for you.

if many teams are looking for a center surely someone will overpay for laughton or vinny

Sanheim family obviously chose ice time for their kids over orthodontics. Luckily one of them is on a professional career path.

I would definitely try to work out an extension in a deal if possible. But if it's for a dman of Sekera's caliber AND a damn near 1st round pick in a very deep draft? Yes, I would certainly do that deal. It wouldn't require much thought, honestly.

But, again, I'm not very high on Brayden Schenn and never really was. I think he, along with his Junior line-mate Scott Glennie, where a bit over-rated coming out of the draft. I still think he will be a solid, if unspectacular top 9 NHL forward. But he doesn't fit into this team going forward IMO, so I'd rather trade him now while his value is still somewhat high.

- mochoson

Why exactly doesn't he fit into this team going forward?

True, but BSchenn for Sekera + Carolina's 2nd might be possible. Sekera is 28.

Top pairing is then Sekera-Coburn. Raffl stays as 1LW until they feel comfortable trying Bellemare there.

- Feanor

28 is too old, he is already on the downswing.

i prefer the call to come from my own driveway, actually.

hmm but okay. i dont feel like reading today, so lets play some schenn games.

Schenn plus X = yandle.

What are you realistically comfortable inserting as X?

Or, Schenn one for one with a Yotes blueliner not named OEL or Yandle. Consider it?

The pens could make for an interesting trade partner but I dont see a deal getting done in our hypothetical little back and forth banter.

Phoenix could have their pick of 2 of:

I haven't been blown away with Schenn but I think he's only going to improve at centre. If you get rid of him and find a way to get rid of Vinny, who takes that C spot? Laughton? I don't think Laughton will be a real high scorer but more of a #3 centre shutdown guy.
- Hextall271

Last two games. B Schenn has had 20 minutes of ice time, playing the Wing. That amount of icetime is a pretty good indicator of how he played in those games. Not sure why the thought that he can only play center exists.

There was a guy who used to sit next to me, had a REALLY bad Eastern European accent. He'd ask me almost every game, "Where Bartulis is?" and I'd have to constantly remind me that he was bought out, and he always responded with incredulous shock.

He was really big on Bartulis and Briere. Whenever Briere got the puck, he'd yell, "SHOOT IT DANNY!" He was a really nice guy though, always liked him.

Us Eastern Euro's generally are.

Sekera would fill a glaring hole on this team since the departure of Meszaros.

I truly don't believe those trades are what hurt the Flyers though. It was losing Pronger. Losing him forced the Flyers into a series of bad decisions. They trade for Grossmann and Kubina and re-sign Grossmann and lose the available tagging space to re-sign Carle. I don't believe Grossmann is a bad player, but they don't make that move if Pronger is healthy.

The team then feels desperate for defense and trades JVR for Luke Schenn. Still desperate for defense and someone who can run the PP in case Timonen retires, the team trades for and signs Streit.

Desperate for a two-way defenseman at the trade deadline, the team trades for and signs Amac.

Pronger would be 40 this season. If not for the injury, I still feel he would be an effective player. Maybe not an all star level player anymore, but certainly way better than we have now.

Because of his injury, the Flyers lost Carle, JVR and six 2nd or 3rd round picks.

- PhillySportsGuy

The Grossmann trade was a good one, especially at the time. The Flyers really needed a reliable defensive D-man with size and Grossmann stepped right in and played well.

As for Kubina, well, the Flyers acquired a player who wasn't healthy (shoulder injury) and was nearing the end of the line. He was a former All-Star and the Flyers were gearing up for the playoffs, but that acquisition didn't work out.

I'd be tempted to trade every player on the team and replace them with Swedes. We'd be the most patient team in the NHL.

and how about for the inclusion of two of those fine specimens, the Yandle quotient in the equation is upgraded to a crate of old Paul Bissonette Tshirt jerseys?

I think Kubina's one bright moment as a Flyer was pummeling someone on the Habs. Like Dale Weise or someone.

Depends, what size? Don't give me that "One size fits all" crap the Flyers try.

Why not just wait for the offseason and sign Sekera. It's not like he's going to take some major discount if the Flyers trade for him and he's not going to lead this team to a cup either.

Flyers should try hard to move some pieces this season and open up some spots on the defense for the young guys and potential free agents.

Sell the dead weight. Kick Holmgren's ass to the curb. Get Cote the (frank) away from coaching.

I thought the Grossmann trade was fine. I just don't think the team makes the trade if Pronger is healthy. Who knows with the Flyers though. They've always traded and signed players they didn't need, but were wowed by a guy's talent.

I'm wary of guys who put up numbers on bad teams. Doesn't mean Sekera can't play, just something to consider

In reality while Sekera has talent its just more of what the Flyers currently have.

Guys who have a hard time leading a pairing, instead being secondary pieces with too many warts. If the squad didn't have MacDonald or Streit signed for the next 20 years I'd be down.

Do think Luke Schenn's time with the squad is coming to an end.

My biggest issue with Grossmann was the decision to get his new deal signed before Carle's. There's been enough rumors that they had a deal for Carle similar to Coburn's and once Grossmann signed they couldn't do Carle's deal until the summer, as they lost the tagging space.

Then Wideman's deal happened in Calgary and there was not a chance to get Carle for less
