how high do you realistically perceive schenn's value to be at the moment?
- stayinthefnnet

Somewhere between Jon Scott and Sidney Crosby

I think he could be the centerpiece of a deal for a player like Yandle. Maybe not a 1-for-1, but he'd be the key part.

Sekera is unsigned after this year.
No way I trade Schenn for him.

- Marc D

It can't be that hard to find out if he would be willing to sign an extension and at what price.

.....what?

I would take that deal in a heartbeat. Wouldn't have to think twice about it.

- mochoson

I suppose the 2nd would most likely be like 33rd overall, but you'd trade Schenn for a UFA who could walk?

What if you got Skinner and Sekera for Schenn and Schenn.

Yes I know the concussions. Just was curious

- J35Bacher

I would do that. Skinner is a younger, more talented and more proven player than BSchenn. The concussions scare me to be sure but Skinner is a legit goal scorer. I don't think Luke will get much better so getting Sekera would be a definite upgrade.

You're much higher on Brayden Schenn then I am. I don't see where he fits into this team long term and even if he did, he's nothing special to me. Far to slow to play wing and to inconsistent defensively to trust at center. I would explore trading him now while he is still fresh off a 20 goal season.

And it's not as if an extension for Sekera can't be agreed upon in a trade.

I'd take him as a UFA signing, but would that work with the cap? Also, there'd be a bidding war.

There was a guy who used to sit next to me, had a REALLY bad Eastern European accent. He'd ask me almost every game, "Where Bartulis is?" and I'd have to constantly remind me that he was bought out, and he always responded with incredulous shock.

Sometime between 4 Am and 11 PM, either February or April. We'll call you to let you know the exact time 3 minutes before we get there.

Brayden isn't going to get you close to Faulk.

I'd take Sekera in a heart beat, even if you lose him for nothing. I don't think they would though. Id send Grossman the other way and try and make it into a bigger deal if I had to.

Then again, I'm very high on Sekera, so I totally understand if the idea isn't supported here on these boards.

- mochoson

They would probably have to offer Sekera a 6 yr 30M dollar deal to keep him past this year as we all know what UFA defenseman who can play get.

They'd have to move someone on D I think to make it work.
Not sure Carolina would take NG's contract off the Flyers hands.

I would definitely try to work out an extension in a deal if possible. But if it's for a dman of Sekera's caliber AND a damn near 1st round pick in a very deep draft? Yes, I would certainly do that deal. It wouldn't require much thought, honestly.

But, again, I'm not very high on Brayden Schenn and never really was. I think he, along with his Junior line-mate Scott Glennie, where a bit over-rated coming out of the draft. I still think he will be a solid, if unspectacular top 9 NHL forward. But he doesn't fit into this team going forward IMO, so I'd rather trade him now while his value is still somewhat high.

I have no problem paying Sekera 5 million a season, but that term's too rich for sure. I don't see why they wouldn't take Grossman back. He's a solid NHL defensemen with a more than reasonable cap hit, and is only signed for next year.

Either way, I think the team should explore trading Brayden Schenn.

I look at it this way. If the reports are true and other teams are shopping for baby Schenn, then it is higher than if the Flyers were shopping him.

i prefer the call to come from my own driveway, actually.

hmm but okay. i dont feel like reading today, so lets play some schenn games.

Schenn plus X = yandle.

What are you realistically comfortable inserting as X?

Or, Schenn one for one with a Yotes blueliner not named OEL or Yandle. Consider it?

The pens could make for an interesting trade partner but I dont see a deal getting done in our hypothetical little back and forth banter.

yeah, that is definitely true. i dont think he is a worthless scrub by any means. He had pretty good value based on last years results combined with potential upside, and i really dont think 4 games is enough to jettison all of that sentiment.

i was just curious where you guys place him. the range seems to be pretty wide.

You really think Pronger would still be playing well at 40?
If he didn't have that ocular concussion there would have been other injury things coming up more then likely.

He may have been able to play but he would have not been the same force.

- Marc D

Sadly, he'd still be the number one guy on this roster. Actually even a concussed Pronger would still be the top guy on this group.

I haven't been blown away with Schenn but I think he's only going to improve at centre. If you get rid of him and find a way to get rid of Vinny, who takes that C spot? Laughton? I don't think Laughton will be a real high scorer but more of a #3 centre shutdown guy.

You won't find a general consensus. Some of us in here would drive him to the airport.

I, personally, have him on the Do Not Trade list.

What about a deal involving Roman Josi?

No
Reluctant yes

Josi would cost a TON though, that's why it'd be reluctant. NSH would want something crazy like Ghost, Schenn, and a 2nd probably
