I assume they don't want to hear it, but he is one of the prime suspects up there for why they stay bad -- plays a ton of minutes, but is as bad defensively as I've seen in a while.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the NHL or anything. But he's so poor defensively, you can't play him 20-plus minutes a night -- he's no better defensively than Andrej Meszaros was on Meszaros' bad nights.

- AllInForFlyers

Agreed. And I think thats a big reason why they wanted Coburn so bad. Schultz is just an absolute mess in his own end and basically requires an effective defensive defenseman as a baby sitter at all times.

Hextall should offer MDZ to LA. Get some picks or something.

Maybe he can call in a favor and get us Williams back.

Okay, with the recent goofy discussions of the Schenn brothers needing to be traded, I have to chock up these idea being brought up due to the following acts.

1. Jay Rosehill was sent down after camp and the Flyers are finally not carrying an enforcer on the roster.

2. Lecavalier has had a pretty good start but he's hurt right now.

3. There has to be a Flyer scapegoat.

Now, yes my display name is "SuperSchennbros", I do like the Schenn brothers but I'm not blind to their faults. When Lecavalier was demoted to being the team's fourth line center role last season, I often felt Brayden Schenn took so many dumb penalties nearing season's end and the playoffs, I felt B.Schenn should have been centering the fourth line himself. It seemed like the Chef would turn a blind eye to our youth and then a guy like Vinny couldn't do anything right, even when Lecavalier heated up a little as last season winded to a close. On the flip side, I felt Luke Schenn was one of our better players in the playoffs against the Rangers. Now five games in, we're ready to pack his bags and ship him out. Luke Schenn needs to be better but Del Zotto has to show he can do more then be able to handle the puck well.

I was discussing Luke Schenn with someone on these boards days ago. I believe there isn't anything wrong with pairing Luke with a guy who compliments him. This other guy believes because he's paid 3.6mm and has entered his 7th season, he should be able to hold his own and possibly carry a pair himself. I don't think that's fair. I really like Jake Voracek but he plays with Claude Giroux, he gets paid 4.25mm and is also in his 7th season in the NHL. Voracek is a very flashy player but his offensive production doesn't tell me he can carry a top line without Giroux, much like a Rick Nash or a Marian Gaborik could. In fact, I feel Voracek's production only mirrors Wayne Simmonds who doesn't have the luxury of playing with a top talent such as Giroux 5 on 5.

Maybe I'm high off my ass but I feel like we've gotta be more fair with the players we have. In my opinion Ray Emery has looked better then Steve Mason. So, should Emery out play Mason this week in his second full game of the season, do we trade Mason? I sure hope not.

The team has gotten find away to win as a unit, not individually.

A big distinction: Mason shows the effort but is hung out to dry by this team. BSchenn came into the season and the lack of effort is no one's fault but his own.

At least he seems to be stepping his game up.

I personally don't have much of a problem with Luke. Would I have liked to get more value in that trade? Sure. But I also would have liked JVR to not require a trade to get his head out of his butt and into gear.

Matt Read led the Flyers in even-strength goal scoring per 60 minutes last year.

Put him with Giroux and Voracek, and don't bury him with defensive zone starts and he's easily a 60-70 point scorer, imo.

He won't get near 60 without being on the top PP unit.

Exactly!

Also matchups change. If he plays on the Giroux line, he'll be going against top d pairs and and top checking lines in a lot of cases.

why are you a voracek hater?

in the games I've watched this year not only has he shown that he can drive a top line, but he has shown he can take over the game at times

You cannot be serious. It says in my post that I really like Jake Voracek.

While we're on the top though. I'm a strong believer that you could call Claude Giroux an elite center in the NHL, Simmonds an elite Power Forward and Couturier inching away from being an elite shutdown center if he isn't already. However Steve Mason to me isn't a top ten goalie in the NHL but he's definitely a starting goalie who's climbing the latter. Voracek to me isn't an elite top line winger but he's getting close. For me, he needs a 30 goal campaign and he needs to meet that mark every season while he's in the prime of his career.

Taking over a game in flashes or moments any top line caliber player should be able to do. Flat out taking over a game to me would suggest he was the single reason why we won a game.

I think Mason, as of the end of last season, is a top 10 goalie, considering he finished 9th in Vezina voting. He needs to prove that he can stick in the top 10.

Voted by who? I didn't get to vote. What was Mason doing before last season? I'll give Mason the credit of being a top 15 goalie but not top ten.

i dont think jake is elite. elite is a selective term. only the top handful of guys in the league at his position. however, jake is a damn good young player. under control. and on an extremely reasonable deal. his deal increases his value as an asset

Most media in Canada would say he's not even top 30. I'd really like to see him turn this around soon and I expect him to if the team starts playing some d in front if him.
