Really (frank)ing good
I basically have a pool of guys I like and then put them in based on who is playing most/who they're playing. Last week my stars were Benn, Seguin, Schwartz, Stamkos, F. Andersen, with good shows from Getz/Perry, Lindholm, Okposo etc.
My key is to pick good cheap goalies (Andersen/Bishop, 3.45m combined), young D who have easier 5v5 matchups and lots of PP time (Lindholm, Maatta etc), then stack the top. - lumlums
I got alot of those players, something seems sketchy around here |

But it was his best quality. Killed by Chara twice in a game and comes back to score winner. He says after game "I feel bruise in my eyes". Love that guy. |

It looks like Pavel Datsyuk (shoulder) is close to returning to Detroit's lineup.
He practiced on the Wings' top line Monday with Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader. Datsyuk also saw time on the top power-play unit. A decision on his status won't be made until after Tuesday's game-day skate, but he may play against Montreal.

What more evidence is needed? It's true. The people that do go to games don't make a sound unless they're cheering for their section to win 25% off a slice of pizza because the scorebaord told them to and anyone with a seat within camera view isn't sitting down until the halfway point of the period. They don't give any sort of home ice advantage for the Leafs at the ACC. There's no arguing that.
I 100% get the counter-argument - what is there to cheer about the last 1, 10, 20, 30, 40+ years??? Not a whole heck of a lot, but Lupul (he was the one who made the quote you mentioned above if I'm not mistaken) is absolutely right in his assessment. What's the problem with that? Dave Winfield called out Toronto fans for being too quiet when they fielded a dominant world series champion in '92 and he is made into a folk hero for it? Too quiet is too quiet - world series favourite or McEichel sweepstakes favourite.
IMO - too much water has gone over the dam over the last several decades for the Leafs to ever really shake off the reputation they've (deservedly) built and become a respected franchise. The media does them no favours - most markets have a group of reporters (or at least one) that is actually positive from time to time about the club - deserved or not - and the farce that becomes reporting on the team is an even bigger joke. It's a huge market with a bunch of cartoon characters running the show. What did Damien Cox have to gain by mentioning Nonis walked into Rexall Friday night? Nothing. He doesn't know why he was there other than the mere mention of it will consumed by a rabid fan base (the real ones that can't afford to go to a game) hoping to cling on to some glimmer of hope for the future. We have the Feschuk's of the world quoting anonymous minor hockey coaches and players moms in their reports. Better is required and better is deserved by those of us that know our ass from our elbow when it comes to hockey coverage.
It is one giant version of the Mickey Mouse club swith each group of those involved a bigger joke than the next - the funny (sad) part is that each thinks their the cream of the crop; mgmt, coaches, players and media. - Deeps27
Well said, and your right. It is what it is though, were stuck with what we got.
You know, in all the years I have been following the Leafs, we haven't once done a proper rebuild.
Many Gm's have come and gone but not one has blown it up and rebuild through proper drafting and then hanging on and training those draft picks.
Teams us fans laughed at over the years for being bottam feeders, drafted well and passed us.
People laugh at Buffalo now, wait a few years and they will dominate us. We seem to be content with trying the band aid approach to try and sneak into the playoffs for a few games of playoff money instead of the big picture of building a Stanley Cup contender.
I think Shanahan will change some things. (or at least I am hoping so)

In fairness, we have our 2011 and 2012 1st rounders in the lineup right now. Gauthier will play on this team at some point and Nylander looks like he could be a good one too. Kadri, Leo, Frattin, Reimer are all our picks. Leivo too, who made the team and an injury threw a wrench into the plan. So they are starting to take the appropriate route.
Still, add Seguin and Hamilton to this group and YIKES. |
