Wow. Voynov arrested/suspended indefinitely this morning for domestic violence. Talk about a night and day reaction NFL vs. NHL. Guess Bettman has been watching the news

I don't know if the league can enforce this ban, since Valamov was in a similar situation last year and the league let him continue to play. Although I like the decision that the team and league made, the message needs to be consistent and not based on current mood of the public.

I think NHLPA has grounds for appeal the ban by the league. If the Team decides to Ban the player then the league can piggy back that ban and say that the player is banned from all league related issues as a result of violating the person conduct rule and the league will honor and uphold the team ban. The league had a chance to set the precedence last year with Valamov under the new CBA rules but chose not to do anything thus creating a precedence and if NHLPA wants to can appeal the ban and win. All I am saying is it is about time the professional leagues did something about domestic violence but the league needs to make and stand and follow through and not flip flop based on the mood of the crowd.

Yea the Avalanche and the league allowed Varlamov to continue to play, and it actually didn't bring about a whole lot of criticism if I recall correctly. Totally about the optics

Also wtf, Hedman is undergoing surgery for his fractured finger? Is this a thing?? Did the (frank)ing finger fall apart or what? I don't remember hand breaks/fractures ever taking more than 3-4 weeks to heal they have him out for 4-6 for a bloody finger

The difference between 3-4 weeks and 4-6 weeks is LTIR status. Cap relief and roster spot opens. This means Drouin will get his 9 games without sending a player down through waivers. This is also know as Gillis rule.

With the fiasco going on in the NFL and its domestic abuse problems as well as their poor handling of past issues other leagues have to set precedent an nip these issues in the bud. NHLPA may have grounds at this point as it is still alleged and there is still a process but don't be surprised if they shy away from protecting players in situations as these moving forward.

Doesn't seem fair that a player can be suspended when nothing has been proven.

Have a few friends who went through all this stuff and it seems like there is a playbook to follow if women want to get rid of their husbands- call the cops during an argument and see the guy get kicked out of the house, restraining orders, fear of violence even if there hasn't been any previously.

Seems strange that athletes are often held to a higher standard than their employers or fans or public. Heck, we had a premier caught for dui and it was business as usual for him.

I wonder if Kucherov, Killhorn or Connolly become available if Drouin stays in the NHL. You have to think that if Drouin sticks he will be getting top 6 minutes.

I imagine the league/team have more information that hasn't been released. Varlamov's situation was handled different and all charges ended up being dropped.

It sounds like this situation was different with Voynov, not just an argument but his wife ended up in the hospital, which is where Voynov was arrested.

Good morning,

New blog is now up. Wringing my hands a bit over five-on-five scoring, getting hopeful about the road trip and catching up with good starts for Canucks prospects:

We actually do have the assets to pull off a trade but we would need to lose the "Win Now " attitude.

How many teams are looking for a top end DMan? Hamhuis Bieksa and Edler , anyone of them could all be packaged .

Markstrom is getting hot in the AHL . Shink , Jensen Gaunce, are they going to be part of the future or moved?

I believe Cedarholm will play for the club in 2 years despite of what Nucker thinks, so he could replace our guy we trade down the road.

With the immediate sinking of the D will help us get a higher pick.

I also believe that big Russian D that we drafted will be NHL ready in two years.

So, we do have the assets but are we willing to part with them.

Trading away D this season to help the top six? Whats the point of that? And I highly doubt there is a win now attitude. They are trying to be competitive... but I dont think they are building a contender for this year.
