C'mon man. How in god's name can the coach be disappointed in the play of the defense, HAVE YOU SEEN WHO PLAYS THERE? I've been a flyers fan for 40 years, The Defense is below average for god's sake! You have a few overpaid players and a few under achieving ones, and this has been happening for years now. As long as the Flyers CONTINUALLY trade for, and sign OLDER FA defenseman, to stupid amounts/lengths, their going to be bad on defense I dont care what anyone says. The PATHETIC trade for Pronger is sill haunting this team. Sbisa,Lupul and 2 1st round picks for a 34/35 year old guy on the downside of a career. PATHETIC!!!!
- twpguy

I think it's pretty safe to say the Pronger trade blew the Ducks out of the water. That was a steal.

Good that we got the win but if we need to score 6 every night it's gonna be a long year. I'd be ok to get some d help at the right price but my god there's probably 2/3rds of the league that are in the same place as we are. I think other teams will recognize this and want us to overpay. If that's the case, well have to stand pat.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hexy inquire about prying Gormley from Arizona. Guys like Bogo and Myers are getting close to being overpaid with a lot of years left on their deals in relation to production. Haven't we been down that road before?
- ravishingone

Myers and Bogo are guys I would take a chance on . Luke is someone I would have NEVER traded for period. Myers and Bogo have more of a game. Myers has been stuck in the bowels of Buffalo, it's hard for anyone to look good on a consistent basis while on that team.
It is obvious the Flyers need help and I just think the GM should do his job and address it

Easier said than done. I'd rather Hextall do nothing if making a move means overpaying for the inconsistent Myers or the injury prone Bogosian.

I know it is easier said than done, but I guess would rather go after Myers.
He has been inconsistent but keep in my mind he has had no help from anyone around him. That team has been bad for awhile.
Myers would look good with Coburn

Yeah, I'd certainly take Myers over Bogo. Bogo's injury history is just ugly

If B.Schenn is involved in a trade for Tyler Myers, Who replaces Schenn? I would love for them to let Laughton play.

Hey Cataldi, I would do the Pronger trade every time.
- MBFlyerfan

He's gotta point, tho I said this anyway and a half ago when the first of the bad contracts that are on this team now we're signed (streit), I applauded them for the Pronger trade but let's face it, that deal is killing us today and naysayers said this. Whether pronger didn't get that eye injury or not I wonder how effective he would've remained.

I just hope Hextall does something. No need to be " patient" with the lineup. Make a move to improve this defense. The goalies are going to have to be admitted for psychiatric care before road trip ends.
I would do B Schenn for Myers

Edmonton and the Flyers seem to be likely partners for a trade and so do the Jets.

L Schenn and Raffl or Umberger.... For Perron..Oilers need D help

B Schenn.... For Bogosian.... Jets have D depth need another forward

- 3flyerkids

The team has some key components and need a trade to tweak it/ spark some life for sure. We have a goalie, a legit first line, and the blueline has players that are decent. Amac and street are over paid but for now they are working out. Hell even Schultz hasn't been bad. I say trade the schenn's cause they're gonna have some value and after the immediate bellyaching by some here, they'll be quickly forgotten.

Bill do you think a lot of our problems especially our D men are between the ears and not from a lack of skating or skill? I just don't understand how they can blow so many coverages and have so many crucial breakdowns multiple times each game.

You can wonder all you want. He was highly effective right up to the point he got the injury, and there is no reason to believe he still wouldn't be an effective player such as Timonen or Jagr were at that age.

Bottom line is that almost any team who loses a legitimate #1 defenseman is going to be hit hard by it if they want to keep winning. They will have to make deals to fill the giant hole. And in Prongers case it was both an offensive and defensive defensman that needed to be replaced.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and posts like the one I answered reeks of hindsight.

There are good reasons.

The most obvious was the way Pronger played the game as opposed to both Jagr and Timo.

It's not hindsight when at the time ppl said this is gonna hurt us. It ALMOST worked but the fact remains that trade blew up in the flyers face. Right now we could really use lupul, who knows with Sbida, and at least one of those draft picks would have got u a roster player. As far as timmonen and Jagr being effective, yea they're effective but they're very limited too. I'm sorry but as much as I lved pronger as a player homer grossly overpaid.

Who is to say the flyers don't win Stanley Cup at least once during the last 3 seasons with a healthy Pronger? Maybe the JVR deal is never made if Pronger was healthy? So many what ifs that its all pointless speculation at this point. I will say I'm glad they got Pronger..... He was the most enjoyable player I've watched on the flyers in a long time and that 2010 run was amazing from the rangers shoot out, to the Boston comeback, to the Stanley cup finals. I don't think that happens without him.
