I think they want Schenn to stay at LW because they know with our depth he's completely useless to them in the long run at Center. Might as well keep him at LW no matter what. If he can't play LW for us then they probably won't keep him around.

i, for one, was relieved to see downie still alive. by the end of last year i was certain he would be dead by now. i will never tire of watching guys look like their careers are all but over when they play in philly only to look reborn a few months later while playing elsewhere

Maybe, but I'm a big fan of Draisatl, I think he could one day be a stud.

Vinny's health makes him too unreliable. Coots hasn't stepped up offensively as of yet to wrestle to spot. If Laughlin doesn't play his way into the void, there will be big drop off between one and two.

Well thats the thing. They want Coots to step it up offensively on the 2nd line, but they also want to give him the toughest defensive assignments. And they might just keep doing the latter until they are able to replace Vinny with Laughton.

If they really want Coots to succeed offensively, I wish they'd try the following top 2 lines:
Schenn-Giroux-Simmonds
Raffl-Couturier-Voracek

When VLC returns, put him between Umberger and Raffl and go back to
Rinaldo-Bellemare-Akeson as the 4th

The more I look at this team and roster, the more depressed I am getting.

Our first line features a left winger who has no business whatsoever playing on a top line.

Our 2nd line features a center who as all of 5 games of NHL experience and who just 2 weeks ago was a 4th liner. It also features a converted center at left wing who has yet to prove that he can be a top 6 winger.

Our 3rd line has what looks to be a skating zombie on the left wing. But hell, he's big and doesn't suck defensively so heck keep running him out there.

And last but not least our 4th line, which actually had some promise just a week or so ago, now features 2 career minor leaguers and a guy who skates fast and hopefully won't take a dumb penalty.

Sadly, however, the D looks even worse. 2 guys you can't use on the PK, a pairing that's a defensive nightmare and a journeyman teaming with a generic 2nd pair guy on our top pairing. Oh joy!

Forget me drinking, I'm wondering if I should pour Mason a strong one, he's gonna need it!!

Couturier last year produced at a 2nd line center rate offensively at ES . When you consider his deployment and who he plays against. His ES point totals are solid.
