I proposed this the other day:

Hanzal + Yandle for Schultz + Eberle

Done deal.

- NugentHallberle

That deal.............I don't like it. I don't even know If I would take Eberle straight up for Yandle. Puck moving defenseman is just more valuable. I certainly would not want Schultz for Hanzal. The Coyotes gave away Rundblad, I doubt they have interest in Schultz. At least not for Hanzal.

Michalek COULD add stability and some freakin leadership to your back end....right now.
- TandA4Flames

He's not flashy and it wouldn't be popular, but you could argue Michalek is exactly what the Oilers need. Or someone like him.

Exactly what we need is a two way massive minute eating stud. Just sayin

Admittedly it's been awhile since I've seen Michalek play with any sort of regularity, and he's not completely useless with the puck.
But for the proposed deal here, and the price it costs, I'd much rather look for a more impact, two way player

That Yandle deal I don't know why people are so down on it, but I'd take that in a second! While he certainly isn't the ideal Dman to be acquiring, I'm sick of waiting around. We've been looking for that ideal Dman for 3 years now and nothing has come of the search. It's about time we settle (if you can call Yandle AND Samuelsson settling) with the best that available.

Then yiu do t watch Oiler games. At the same point in their careers Seguin accomplished way more.

Seguin was traded after a down year and basically run out of town by the veterans; but he still got solid value. I wouldn't call the return for Seguin great by any means.

If MacT trades Yak now it will likely be under duress. He should get a solid return for Yak's potential, but not great.

Personally I think Edm should hold on to him. If anything, I'd be looking to upgrade the defense by trading from the deep prospect pool of defenders.

The Weird thing about the Seguin trade? Peter Chirelli was about 5 minutes from being fired when the Bruins improbably game back to beat the Leafs in game seven of the playoffs 2 years ago. Then he takes his repreive and trade Seguin for a return that was only not laughed out of town because the Bruins had built up so much goodwill by being good for so long.

If the Oilers trade Yakupov for the equivalent of Erikson and Smith there will be a riot in the streets. That trade looks worse with each passing day.

chiarelli has built one of the elite franchises in the nhl for the last 4 years. and probably the best team in his conference for all of that time.
I don't think he was ever in any jeopardy of losing his job. quite the opposite actually. hes generally lauded as one of the best gm's in the game.

and as far as the trade, a healthy louie Eriksson, a guy in smith that proved extremely capable last year, and a pretty solid (once bluechip) prospect in morrow.
for yakupov.
erikssons concussion issues skew everything. hes a helluva two way player. great at both ends

I wouldn't be part of that riot.

Don't get excited. You will be disappointed. Mini-Ovi? Good luck with that. A smaller version of someone who will never win a cup, at least as the top guy. Keep your defencemen, build around them. You will be much better off.

Youtube Behind the B season 1, episode 1. To paraphrase Benning, 'It's Seguin or our core guys.'

Veterans wanted him out, forced Chiarelli's hand. Bruins labelled Seguin as inconsistent, immature and developing to slowly defensively, but a future 35 goal scorer .... seems like a lot of similarities to Yak.

Note: Well worth it to watch Behind the B Season 1.
