While I agree that OEL is out of the question unless its someone like Hall (which won't happen for either team), Yakupov is not off to the KHL for eff's sakes.

He's also turned his defensive game around quite nicely. Using his teammates to exit the D zone, playing in position, etc. It's actually quite amazing the turn around. He's very motivated and has brought back his edge. He and Hall have been the few bright spots this year.

Also explains why the Habs were able the draft Sherbak at #26 last draft when the kid is obviously talented enough to go earlier.....

How about just no. If Edmonton is sending away Yakupov, it'll be for a very solid return, think of OEL.

It's already been discussed that trading away Yakupov (our second best player behind Hall this season) would be stupid. If anything Eberle would be the one available (which saddens me as I love Ebs).

Yakupov isn't close to value of OEL. OEL is a legit #1 defensemen. He's a player that good on a team that gets no attention and can't score for beans

ok, continue sucking then. and enjoy paying Yaks, he's going to be asking where his 7 year x $6 mil contract is. Everyone else got one, but you don't have the cap to keep all that money tied up in this core of losers.

If you think a legit top 4 D, 1st round pick in the deepest draft in years, and another first round fwd prospect is a 5 laughy offer for Yakupov, you have problems.

Why would we use an asset to get a 31/32 year old Dman, a mid first round pick which could turn to nothing, and a very good prospect which... could also be nothing.

Why wouldn't we take yakupov, add our first and get something we need?

I'm not saying Yakupov will get us OEL, but that is what they are looking for. A top dman.

I'm perfectly fine throwing up at least one 1st rounder.

There is a difference between top (pairing) d-man and one of the best young d-man in the game. OEL qualifies for both.

Yakupov may have plenty of talent (and from the reports I keep reading now the motivation to turn that talent into an all-around hockey player worthy of the #1 pick), but he isn't netting Edm one of the best young d-man in the game. It would take multiple 1sts just to get Zona to listen and even then it's doubtful at best the trade would go through unless it is later in the season and Zona is out of the playoff hunt.

Not defensively. And that's what the Oilers need.
