Would require a leap of faith from Berube... but it could really change the complexion of the group.
- Tomahawk

Unfortunately, it's more likely that Berube's gonna ride the MacDonald-Coburn train right out of the NHL head coaching ranks.

Listen, I don't mind agreeing tot he fact that we're going to suck for a couple of years ONLY if it means that someone in the office up there has a definitive plan as opposed to the fly on the seat of your pants mentality! I want to be assured that management actually knows what they're doing! Sometimes, I wanna grab my wooby when the fan base appears to know more than they do.

Prove to me that you guys know what you're doing. For the love of GOD...PLEASE!

- Fast_Eddie_1

I'm with you. So far Hexy has practiced what he's preached, I hope he's the guy that can fix it

so is there agreement out there that Berube isn't the problem but a lack of talent and on ice execution is the issue?

I hope you are right, but even if we started 2-10 it wouldn't suprise me if he doesn't do one thing except preach that they " have to work harder" or " our 5on 5 play has to be better". Tell you what... Get better players and those things will improve!

if its going to be a down year. id rather them try to unload vets for assets. I think hextall knew it was going to be worse even before the decline of kimmo with his step back comment.

The problems are tiered, IMO and there are a lot of little ones that make the bigger ones seem worse. The top tier involves execution. The talent would probably be a tier down. Berube would be several tiers down after that.

Yet, Tyler Seguin was traded for being immature.

Never change, NHL front office types.

They were 1 game , 1 goal away from beating NYR last year. I know they were not a complete team but I was hoping they wouldn't " step back" as they did have a good team last year.
It's great to know the GM will show patience with the younger players but he can still go out and make deals to improve the hockey team.

Seems like Hextall, and Holmgren at the end of his tenure, have/had a vision for the future. I agree that the team sucking is easier to stomach if there is a plan in place that will make them better later on. It seems for the better part of 20 years, the management has been very short sighted and building teams on a year-to-year basis.
- NickTheKid87

Agreed! That is why I need that reassurance (which would be NOT to make panic trades and build our team through draft picks and whatnot). Stay the course. As much as we claim to want roster changes, I don't want to mortgage the future just for a few extra wins or make a playoff appearance.

I'm pretty sure that Umberger is going to be a sunk cost. He looks beyond useless.
- PLindbergh31

I disagree, actually -- he has been fine, useful, on the PK. And let's not forget what Bill noted: This team is going to the box a ton less.

Maybe around Game 50, the Flyers will sorely miss Hartnell's goals. But right now, it just hasn't been a factor, and I hope the Flyers continue to stay out of the box.

Keep in mind, this is the first game vs the Habs since he threatened Emelin/Weise in the handshake line last spring, too.

Yeah. I think he has a plan. I think it is the whole reason we haven't seen any of the prospects make the team or called up. Let them play in Allentown together and then if this team is out move some of the pieces at the TDL. At that time teams going into the playoffs usually make dumb deals so they could possibly get some nice assets.

Just think if a team like WPG was going on a run and close to a playoff a spot. They might part with pcks or prospects or both for a player like Luke Schenn or Grossmann for size and expierence. Would you take Burmistrov and a 3rd round pick for Grossmann? I probably would. Not saying it would happen but you can usually make things happen when a teams are despeate to get o the playoffs.

I'm saying all of the above. Not sold Berube is a good coach, but he definitely has a bad hand

Apparently he only scratches small skilled players when they make mistakes. If you are big and/or agressive feel free to screw up all you want.

See
Hartnell, Scott
Rinaldo, Zac
Schenn, Luke

- BiggE

Rinaldo hasnt really looked bad this year, schenn yes and i think its time he starts getting scratched and inserting schultz or bringing up a Phantom if he cant stay consistent with thought processing, Mdz too.

Even when we have had good coaches, they don't get saved because the GM dealt them a bad hand.
I am certainly in the all of the above category. I wasn't a berube guy at the start. he should have been interim for the year and them see who is available.

I think Berube's system is fine, based on what I see around the league -- you can win with it.

Where he does himself no favors is partly with roster selection/usage, and partly having a short deck to deal from
