Yeah. I think you can question Fla or TB. Having Jones and Hedman moving forward would look pretty good
- PhillySportsGuy

Why I question them less is that they had less depth at the position they picked than Colorado did at center.

I think you get into trouble when you draft for need instead of overall talent. It's so difficult to predict the future in 3-5 years. O'Reily and Duchene may suck in 4 years. Barrie and Erik Johnson may be a great top pair.

That style of picking is what got Edmonton is trouble. If the talent levels are not significantly different, you should try to take the player in the positions that are most important and you have the most need in.

They didn't surround their young guys with the proper players. Drafting a defenseman instead of Hall, RNH or Yakupov wouldn't have put them in a better position. They have several good defensive prospects right now. They needed more two-way veterans in their top 9 and more talent in goal and on defense.

Not just drafting a defenseman, but drafting for need. If they took Seguin and Murray instead of Yakupov and Hall, I think they would be a better team. Now they are rushing an 18 year old because they lack center depth and still don't have a competitive defense despite adding veterans.

Yeah, but is he going to get a raise to the $6mm that Eberle makes now?

I like Eberle, but I think Perron is more realistic/cheaper.

I still think Yak is going to be a steal one day and someone will pick him up cheap. dude just needs a change of scenery and some confidence to beast out. jmo.

Seguin may have imploded if given the keys to the car in Edmonton. He was in a position where they could slowly ease him into the lineup in Boston. He still wasn't mature enough.

Murray looks real good, but his situation is similar to Seguin in that he has been eased into the lineup in Columbus. They are a strong, two-way team as well.

What I'm saying is that any young player would have looked bad on the Oilers.

Edit: I would much rather have Murray than Yakupov, but that's because I think Murray is going to be a better player. It's not because he's fit the need of the Oilers more.

Pull out a map and look where Edmonton is. It's got to be tough dealing with ufas.

I think they're problem is the GM supremely overvalues his players and prospects.

Phantoms won home opener in OT. Manning with the game winner. Laughton had 2 goals and Ghost had 2 assists, Cousins had 2 assists.

Hagg played well too. Finished with 6 shots on goal, but didn't register a point.

Sanheim also scored for his Junior team

Sounds like a great night for the Flyers future. Glad to see Cousins stepping up, he has potential to be a nice bottom 6 forward

Oilers lose again. 0-5 to start the year. This is painful.

Maybe they'll finally make a significant move. But with MacT they probably just move Petry for a mediocre backup goalie.

Alright you got me

You know who had 35 and 32 even strength points for 08-09 and 09-10 (the chart I'm looking at has Coots at 28 Even points last year)?

Jordan Staal.

Would you have taken Jordan Staal as your 2nd line center of the future for your team back then to build a perennial contender?

- Just5

Absolutely.

Drouin's first goal in AHL. I don't believe he's long for that league.
