That and the ridiculous increase in ticky-tack penalties being called is really sucking all joy out of watching the games. The refs have waayyy too much control over the games.
- JonnyHammerstix

Agreed. No one is watching, or paying their hard earned money to watch some 60+ year old former attorney call a dozen holding penalties.

Whose watching the game tonight? I'm still waiting to see if hockeystreams lets me in after I asked for a invite.

Anyone else surprised Draisaitl outlasted Nurse?
- aflyerpower8

Not really. It's easier for a young forward.

Nope. Marincin and Klefbom are damned good. They're much worse off in the middle.

Having watched a few Edmonton games recently, saying anyone on their defense is good is a bit of a stretch.

It's the illegal contact after 5 yards penalty that awards an automatic first down that really gets me. A team can be 3rd and 20 and just the slightest touch to a receiver after 5 yards gives the offense a first down. It happened once against the Eagles in the 49rs game. Its infuriating.

Yep. A 5 yard illegal contact penalty should not be an automatic first down. Couldn't agree more.

It's simple. Hockey "lifers" just totally hate and disrespect it.

IMO, they do that at their own peril. Regardless of one's opinion of the shootout, it's part of the regular season and it DOES impact your ability to make the playoffs.

That's fine but a 5 yard penalty being a auto 1st down is the biggest oversight in sports. That kind of call could really change the landscape of a game especially with how weak some of the calls have been.

I'm with you on the Division names.

I also want teams to wear white jerseys at home.

I'm in the minority on this board that is OK with shootouts in the regular season ONLY. I'm onto you guys that sneeringly calls it a "skills competition"....

I would never want them in the playoffs, however. That would definitely be lame.

Maybe point-of-contact, since it's past 5 yards to begin with (and what are they gonna get, usually 6 or 7?), but definitely repeat the down.

I don't watch but maybe three games a year anyway, so I really don't give a hoot, but it really is bad.

If I'm playing a little armchair GM I could see a trade along the lines of this happening..

To EDM:
B. Schenn or Laughton, L. Schenn, Coburn, 1st, 3rd

To PHL:
Eberle, Petry, 1st.

- Roytastic

I think Eberle is slightly overrated and I think this trade offer just burns us.

I tend to over exaggerate things. Although he did have 46 one year playing with linemates not as talented as Giroux (or Vorecek). I don't think 40 would be out of the question now. Doesn't change the fact that I feel he would be the perfect "sniper" for Giroux that everyone is always asking for.
- JonnyHammerstix

No doubt about that. And he has a strong all around game.

Carter's average TOI in Philly from 2006-07 to 2010-11: 18:00, 18:51, 20:57, 19:18, 18:15

Carter's average TOI in LA from 2011-12 to 2014-15: 18:06, 17:35, 18:57, 17:45

He plays less minutes than he did here. Also what I'm saying is that he's not the core and Kopitar, Doughty, Quick are yada yada yada

- NickTheKid87

So Carter is not one of LA's top players in minutes played and doesn't play in all situations for them? And the talk of Carter not being part of the core there, is pure BS.

You can't compare icetime with two different teams, because teams use players differently, and some teams roll 4 lines and some don't. The accurate comparison is where he ranks in icetime among forwards. And Carter is pretty much 2nd only to Kopitar on that team among forwards.

So in other words, no.

(unless what you're saying is that these players are incapable of focusing on more than one thing at a time)
