Dan, they moving to Brooklyn b/c of fan base here. I wont name anyone on this board but as Isles Season ticket holder have offered game I cant attend at Season ticket holder cost with no takers.

Nassau has more complainers than Die Hards. If you think you getting 13K tonight, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. That's why they moving to Brooklyn.

While I cant make tonight, ill try to make as many as I can in this last season.
If people don't want to pay up go to Nassau they wont pay to go to Brooklyn either.

That' said the days of sports being family fun are over. It become too expensive. Ticket prices and concession are geared at Corp Sponsors.

It disgusting that 4 people sitting in good seats drinking 2 beers each at even the dumpy coliseum is a $600 night out.

I disagree with the bold, for the most part- crap is crap, and with the exception of the New York Football Giants, no one around here is going to pay good money to watch crap. However, given a decent team, I think they'll draw better during the week in Brooklyn than they do in Uniondale. This isn't going to be a suburban team anymore, with a whole bunch of people from the immediate surrounding areas having to make the decision as to whether or not to shell out that money and load up the minivans with kids on a school night. Once you have viable public transit near to the facility, you open up the possibility that a more diverse group of people will come from more places.....people like me, who used to buy tickets for 41 games, selling most for d*mn near nothing, and only attending like 7 or 8, because of the pain in the a$$ it was for me to get to what, other than for the nearby locals, essentially amounts to the middle of nowhere, especially on a weeknight.

If this club becomes as good as it should be over the next two or three years, that building will be sold out most of the time (at least the seats that aren't obstructed will be, anyway), regardless of what day of the week it is. NJ, despite the fact that their actual attendance is also still a farce compared to what they announce every night (their building is just too big for their fan base, IMO), has still drawn at least 20% more actual human beings most of the nights I've been there than they used to in East Rutherford. It's just less of a hassle to get there (and get out of there) for most of the metro area, and that makes a big difference to a lot of potential customers. I realize the actual people who attend the games will likely change, probably by at least 25%, but I think that in the end the overall draw will be larger.

Excuses... this is why they have to move. No hockey fans on the Island!!!
- jimmc7722

But they're lining the streets in Brooklyn? The Russian community in Brighton beach will embrace them? lol. Love hearing this BS on this site like Brooklyn is some huge hockey market. Listen, there is a huge amount of hockey fans on the island. Drive around LI side streets and you have to swerve to get around the nets in the streets. The Coliseum was sold out pretty consistently for a long time. I'd say 60% of Ranger fans are from LI. Nobody likes a loser this isn't Edmonton or Toronto where people will pony up big bucks to watch shat. We pay more in taxes amongst everything else than anywhere in the country.

Nobody is going to pay their hard earned cash on watching the garbage that's been on the Coliseum ice for almost 30 years. Between picket, Spano, and now Wang along with all of the other nonsense associated with this club it's going to take a lot more than two wins against Carolina and one against the Rangers to fill the building up. That doesn't mean there aren't hockey fans on LI. That's completely, totally false.

In the olden' days I had a 19 inch B&W TV in my room that I watched the Isles games on cable channel 3 and on my desk was a rotary deskphone that I used to call SportsPhone. In the mid 80's I upgraded to a 19 inch color and a touchtone phone. Needless to say, going to the NVMC for an Isles game was like being in a high tech kingdom. These days we have 55 inch HDTV in the den and the kids have an HDTV in their rooms and an iPhone.

As a long time idiot (season ticket holder). I have always gotten a kick out of how crowded the colisium gets when they win a few games in a row. They will have your 14,000 tonight Dan... I'm sure of it... then if they lose 2 of 3 it will be Sub 10,000.

this is why I have such a love/hate for those Fanzone idiots. I hate their chants (especially the Josh Bailey .. score a goal song)... but they come to every game. As A guy who has seen this building invaded by the other team's fans forever I love the guys who come to every game. Even the Banana idiot, the Orange hair freak, and the Ziggy nut with the shiney hair. Love them for their passion! (It's also why I refuse to bash the other blogger... respect the passion.

Passion for what? For whining about the parking or concession stands? I don't even think she really watches the sport or gives a shat about it. The most casual fan on the planet knows more about the sport than she does.

Agreed. NY'ers are filled with band wagoners. It's the way it is. Half of those "Ranger fans" you know at work will be telling everyone how they were always Islander fans by December(hopefully ).

Exactly. Absolute waste of a press pass. She offers next to nothing about anything and is more interested in seeing a players new hair cut than anything pertaining to the sport. There's no "passion" there whatsoever.

you know how I followed the Isles from Vancouver? If their games weren't on hockey night in canada (maybe 1-2 a year) I'd have to check the sports page stats the next day and see what happened. There were no highlights to watch. If I wanted to know sooner I'd have to tune into the news radio channel and wait until they cycled through the scores. "Islanders 3, Penguins 1" that's all I got. Nothing else.

today's younger sports fans have NO IDEA how lucky they have it.

A few thoughts from a former season ticket holder (only so much $$$ to go around when your kid is an ice goalie) and fan of this team since 72!
1. This team plays well it sells out, so lets address the move to Brooklyn. The only reason this team is moving to Brooklyn is Kate Murray didn't get greased. The Town of Hempstead is is clueless but they do know what they like, $$$, while not exactly the same, they are letting a Costco go up in Oceanside with 30000 gallons of fuel for their gas station, of course it is right next to the water and was under 14 feet of water in the storm. Oh and its ok they only have 1 single lane road in and out of the location. But hey a guy is going to build something that would create jobs and revenue for years and a few richie richs in Garden City who contribute $$$ to the idiots that run the county and hell no.
2. female dog about Wang all you want, ( I have too) but the fact of the matter is Quebec would have taken this franchise for their new building in a second. Now his cable contract is very very good, however considering the back of the hand way the team is treated and the $$$ and tax breaks he would have gotten to go north would easily have made up for it. Luxury box funds and sales better where, Quebec or Brooklyn. Season tix base? So say what you want, they are still a train ride away from those like me in eastern Suffolk but thats a hell of alot better then being mentioned in the same sentence as the Hartford Whalers.
3. Finally keep winning and you wont be able to get a ticket, 13000, on a Thursday this early might be tough, but a month from now fighting for first in the division, 15000 will be every night.

I was at the preseason game vs Devils. A LOT of Brooklyn kids & parents. Growing up in massapequa, I can tell who's from LI and who's not. I don't think the they will have a problem with attendance, if the team makes the playoffs this year. Much easier to market.
