All kidding aside it's probably raining in a few places at the Coliseum as we speak.

Rain stopped here in North Babylon. radar shows rain has moved past...Looks like it's gone for today. Enjoy your tailgates tonight.

Was hoping maybe they'd send Donovan down, scratch Strait, and have Reinhart in. Not that I want him to stay up, but I would like to see him play 1 game with a D partner that's NHL caliber.
- Charlie21

Donovan isn't waiver exempt. They're not going to put him on waivers and lose him for nothing. The odd man out will be Reinhart if de Haan is ready to go.

In the olden' days I had a 19 inch B&W TV in my room that I watched the Isles games on cable channel 3 and on my desk was a rotary deskphone that I used to call SportsPhone. In the mid 80's I upgraded to a 19 inch color and a touchtone phone. Needless to say, going to the NVMC for an Isles game was like being in a high tech kingdom. These days we have 55 inch HDTV in the den and the kids have an HDTV in their rooms and an iPhone.

I wonder if they ease him back in and play him with Strait on the last pairing and keep his minutes down?

My guess is he's going to play with Hammer. Boychuk and Leddy. Hickey and Strait.

Hickey improves that bottom pairing a whole lot.

My bad....I thought he was still. Thought it was NHL 159 games...or maybe that was under the old CBA.

Agreed. Hopefully we get a glimpse of what this defense can be tonight. One week off the ice shouldn't have too much of a negative(though he won't be a 100% of course) effect on his game tonight.

I could be wrong. That total changes based on how many years it's been since they signed and their current age. He might actually be waiver exempt. Whatever.

Staple actually asked the same question as you. He said the coaching staff has really liked the Hickey-Hammer pairing and was wondering if they'd stick Calvin back with Hammer or ease him in on the third pairing.

Either way, third pairing is improving tonight.

I don't think it will be empty but its not going to like saturday night either. Like I said 12-13,000 tops which is fine because it will still be loud. Like I said earlier they keep this up and come the holidays you'll see the place jammed for the remainder of the season
- Vukota

Agreed...at this time of year, it's usually about 10-12K during the week, and has been for the last 2-3 years, once they started showing at least a potential of something to look forward to in the future. Before that, they were lucky to pull 7,000 on a weeknight, unless for our neighbors, or the Flyers. However, the attendance ALWAYS improves after New Year's Day, by at least 10%. As you said, if this team continues to play well, and is making a solid playoff push, for the last two full months of the season we should have a nearly full building most games, regardless of when they are.

I think I’d rather see:

Hamonic hickey
Leddy boychuk
Dehaan strait

Than pairing hickey with strait.

Yeah. They may do that. Was kind of my feelings on it. Keep his minutes down while stabilizing that third pairing. In theory it sounds good at least.

I noticed against the rangers after reinhart missed his man in front of the net for the rags second goal that hamonic was double shifting while reinhart sat on the bench for a while. With dehaan back, if strait continues to struggle we might see him ride the pine for a stretch. I just hope strait doesn’t cost us another goal tonight. Would really like to see this team go up against the pens with a 4-0 start to the year.

These points early on when certain teams struggle can be huge late in the year.

"Anything less than 13,000 people at tonight’s game is embarrassing considering the success of the team this season"

They've played three games this year two of which were against a team that might be picking first overall at the draft and another that is missing their "first line center" and a top 4 d man due to injuries. I like that they're 3-0 but lets not get ahead of ourselves. This fan base is hesitant to jump on and rightfully so. I'd love to see the old barn jammed for them tonight but I have a hard time blaming this fan base for anything or calling them out. I may go tonight, hopefully Vukota sits this one out

Once they get past that dreaded end of November and December and if they are still a winning team people will come. The Islanders every year had that period where they lose like 8 to 10 games in a row
