Didn't someone predict before the season started that Rinaldo would score 30 points?

Not a fan of Berube sort of 'forcing' a player into a role that he's not exactly suited for. Why not place this player into the best scenario to succeed? PP time and flanking a bit more skill? The Flyers have injuries. Sometimes you have to try new things. They haven't won a game yet so it's not like the way they've been doing the lines has been working swimmingly.

Brad Marsh's new blog is a pretty humorous one: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=63116
- bmeltzer

He really took that personally. Sounded like the guy was joking. Also, if that was all the guy said, the goals part, what does that have to do with analytics? Seems like Marsh is trying to make the analytics supporters look bad. He really jumped to a bold conclusion by saying

Otherwise, I might have been introduced to the audience this way: "Let's give a warm welcome to the worst player ever to hang around the NHL so long -- the guy with the worst cumulative Corsi rating ever recorded and the lowest scoring player in NHL history -- the one and only Brad Marsh!"

To me, the guy made a joke and Marsh didn't like it and somehow made it into a traditional vs. analytics thing.

I'm not a fan of Berube and this is one of the reasons. There are other options for the 4th line outside of Akeson so using him in that role is sort of odd. Either get the most from him and play him in more of an offensive role or use someone that could do the 4th line job better and scratch Akeson.

Definitely. A lot of those bad turnovers and 'soft plays' work more effectively when playing alongside skilled players – meaning passes connect more and offense is generated. He definitely still needs to know when to get the biscuit deep and pay more attention to the defensive aspect of the game but the kid has vision, creativity and play-making abilities, it's rather foolish to squander that in a limited checking/defensive capacity IMO.

There seems to be a stubbornness to Berube's coaching style. He is flexible in certain areas, and woefully inflexible in other areas, and never the two shall meet.

Yep, physical, gritty vet with a rep as a hard worker? Guy made an honest mistake.

Smallish, younger guy who is more offensively inclined does same thing? Too soft and inconsistent

I agree. He's not great defensively, can't hit or play physically at all pretty much but has good offensive abilities. Yet he's on the 4th line. His strengths are being ignored and his weakness are being exploited there. It doesn't make much sense. Seems like he's in the lineup just to be in the lineup.
