If Todd McLellan ever gets fired, we should fire our coach and grab him.

It's a risk, but I think in general it is a bit overstated. Especially in today's game where it's becoming more common for the better kids to go pro within a couple of years from being drafted onto their teams. Looking just at defensemen from the past few drafts who are NHL regulars now:

Fowler
Faulk
Brodin
Hamilton
Lindholm
Maatta
Morgan Reily
Trouba
Grigorenko
Seth Jones

Of course, lots of forwards are coming into the league.
Looking at the 2013 draft, a large percentage of the first round have either already been in or going to be in the NHL (as of this season).
Morin seems like he's in the minority amongst his draft peers in not graduating yet.

MacKinnon
Barkov
Drouin (IR)
S Jones
E Lindholm
S Monahan
D Nurse
Ristolainen
B Horvat
Nichushkim
(Morin)
Wenneberg
Zadorov
Lazar
Mueller
Burakovsky
Dano

I'm not trying to say that all top prospects should go right into the NHL, rather, I'm saying that these days it's more of a young man's game and I think you have to evaluate things on a case by case basis to determine the right path. Dont' just assume you HAVE to season a D man for four or five years in the system before he's ready.

Some of these kids might be ready sooner than later...if the team has a role for them, and they can handle it, it can work out well. While I wouldn't want to rush players as a rule, I also wouldn't want to relegate them to the minor/junior ranks for more years than is necessary. So, I don't think we should fear bringing up a Morin or Ghost or even Sanheim over the next year or two IF they show signs of being ready to make the jump and there's a role for them to play. Even a third pairing role getting 10-15 mins a night can do a lot for a young (D) player's development if the environment is conducive to learning and growing as a player and person. It also takes patience from the organization and their fans. There will undoubtedly be bumps in the road for any young player as he acclimates to the NHL game. I think bringing in Gord Murphy and making some of the other changes we've seen should make the Flyers better able to bring along their young talent, whether they quickly get a spot with the big club or not. I know one thing, having to decide who and when to promote amongst multiple top D prospects is a good problem to have!

The nine game trial isn't up for a lot of those 2013 draftees.

I just think you have to look at each player individually, rather then have some set protocol. When they're ready, they're ready. At least as much as you can tell. Sometimes you think they're ready and they're not. I just don't want to see what they did with Sbisa happen again. Where he sat in the press box.

My feeling with young players is they're going to have growing pains. Have to let them play through it. But that's not to say you thrust any kid in there

I haven't followed Scott Laughton at all in the minors but wouldn't now be the best time to get a look at him with Lecavalier out?

It maybe true but I think it's in the best interest for Morin to continue to round out his game, grant it the time he'll miss with the broken jaw won't help.

But I'd go the same route Hextall is going, I'd rather have them be more than ready then put them in too soon and end up with little from the player.

If he's clearly ready, then fine. I just want them to err on the side of caution.

I more or less agree in how Morin and the rest of the prospects on D are being handled thus far. Morin should turn pro next season.

Depends how he looks. I don't think he looked NHL ready this past camp, he's got things to work on. The jaw injury might end up helping, because he might not be able to just physically dominate an have to rely more on positioning and smarts to be effective.
