The problem I have with it is we don't really address the defense that much. Nothing against Yandle, but if he's in I'm dealing Schultz for a more rounded guy on the backend. Yandle just doesn't make this team harder to play against. Unless we outright abandon defense and play an offense only system.
- Lahey

This was my point on the original post. We need a shut down guy/pairing not another offensive dman

I don't think Hall is the problem.

They have other players they could trade for a center, how about Yaks?

I guess Hall may be the problem if people think the Oil should have drafter Seguin.

- hillbillydeluxe

He's just finding his beast-mode, and his value is low. I'd rather trade Ebs and throw in a bit extra than move Yak.

That's like the Colin Fraser argument except reversed. Hall is the nega-Fraser
- Morris

Hahaha....I just don't see Hall as a good leader i.e. Toews, Bergeron etc. More of a secondary type personality.

Not saying they should have drafted Seguin at all, but if you could move him for say a Bergeron type player would you do it?

If the Oilers win 2 in a row this place might implode.

Do you think they'd get full value for Hall? or that Hall wouldn't be the best player in that trade? Give me a semi-realistic scenario where trading Hall makes this team better, and keep in mind that every GM knows the Oil are bent over a barrel right now.
- BigDre

A good scenario is where MacT can get players to fill other positions that are needed. Sure we have a LW problem, but it'd be better if defense could start a rush and actually play defense.

I don't think he makes us any easier to play against than with Petry in the lineup. That being said, if we're going to make a big trade and give up probably the best piece, the primary guy we get back should probably be a guy that is an excellent fit. I don't know that we'd need to change our system to compensate for Petry out, Yandle in, but the notion that we're looking for a more rounded player is well stated.

If there was a deal with Dubinsky/Tyutin deal floating around, I'd of course prefer that.

P.S. everytime I look at your posts I think I'm replying to OG

If we could pull off a Petry + Ebs for Yandle and Vermette deal, we could have this:

Hall-Nuge-Perron
Pouliot-Vermette-Yakupov
Draisaitl-Arcobello-Purcell
Hendricks-Gordon-Joensuu

Yandle-Fayne
Marincin-Schultz
Ference-Nikitin

Better? Worse? The same?

- Morris

I could live with that for the rest of the year. Would need to find a solid LW to play with Draisaitl next year though.

I guess the question would become what can you get for Schultz? I take Yandle over him everyday of the week

So your semi-realistic situation is for MacT to trade our best player for some players we need, and then fill the hole on LW he created.

Hall for Bergeron? It's a soft No...our centre situation is so dire, but with Nuge and Drai in the pipeline it seems like investing in a 3rd top 6 C is a little frivolous.

Nuge or Drai would be on the table if I'm the Oilers trying to keep Hall and add Bergeron though.

Bergeron would solve about 36 problems on this team alone.

me too. If we could go back and sign Petry to a longterm deal and shop Schultz around, I'd do it.

I was just starting in the framework of values that management has seemed to set out. That being said, keeping Yandle-lite and adding Yandle may well be as you say overkill

So what you are saying the this place is made of bricks and the Oilers are the big bad wolf. Implosion unlikely

I know its not a good idea to change coaches every few months, but you cannot fire the team can you?

If you goofs are tanking, you shouldn't be throwing kids like Nurse/Marncin to the lions. They should be in the AHL playing competetive games. It won't do them any good to get blown out every night, they'll be branded losers.
- TheJerseyDevil1

Goofs? Lol
First off Jabroni, Marincin is in the AHL and Nurse is just getting his 9 game look before he goes back to Jr. Not sure if you're aware of the rules but as a 19 yr old CHL player he can't play in the AHL.

Better IMO. Still a bit iffy on that 2nd pairing, but up front that looks solid.

Okay, so finishing Bottom 7th every year since 2010 is good? Dude (frank) off. We need something big here. Hall is a great player, but is he helping the team much? Nah. Does his points contribute to winning? Nah. The reason we want him is because he puts up 80 points a year. Does it contribute to success no.
