for an overpayment sure. But the oilers are one bad overpayment away from setting the team back several years. I think if they can be smart/shrewd with their next few signings/trades they could put together a pretty good team, the talent is definitely there.

Holy over payment... Wow
- OilerFan16

Thing is Eberle is expendable- I lost faith in the guy- he just floats and doesnt have the size to create room- If we were to complete this trade- it would be a vast improvement in size for the fwds as well as on defense... the first rounder should be altered but to what- maybe washington gives us a 2nd and we give up a 3rd instead of the first?

I'm pretty far from throwin in the towel just yet.....but you gotta ask yourself.......Is Eakins Insane or what? If you're David Perron wouldn't you be upstairs begging to be traded....asking..."after scoring the most goals on the team last season and 3rd overall in points.....Why the hell am I on the 3rd line?"
Petry was our steadiest D-Man last season....albiet of a lousy team....yet he sits him because of lack of playing time in the preseason Going up against a team that is going to hand you your ass anyway....especially with RNH aka "the goon" and Eberle sitting this on out.
Why would you not send Hall out for the shoot out in Vancouver? Why would you send Marincin down to the minors after the surprising body of work he did last? Why would you sit Nurse in 2 games we could have won and play him in the LA game? LA has psycho's too.....Nolan, Clifford, Regehr......if you thought you were protecting the kid.
Why would any sane man leave the "C" hanging the on Ferance after last season resounding success?
You don't have to fire the man....just take him out back and explain it to him...Oh wait....I forgot ...there's nobody left that is willing to do that.

That's the only way we'll ever get a 1st pairing defenseman is through overpayment. Until then we'll be sitting in the basement hoping for prospects to turn out.

We need 1 top dman... and a 1st line fwd with size that can wear down defenses or a center with size... basically we need to be able to push and create room- we have improved immensely with Pouliot and Purcell - but 1 more would be awesome

True... then we dont have to sign as many 4-6 dman and overpay for no results...

"Management focused on building an NHL team, rather than assembling a squad that can compete with other NHL teams." Did you really write this? Please explain, you continue to amaze me.
- sfrizz

After experimenting with defencemen and goaltenders who couldn't play in the NHL last year (Larsen, Belov, Grebeshkov, Fraser, Marincin, Dubnyk, LaBarbera) MacTavish went out and got NHL players this year (Fayne, Nikitin, Aulie, Scrivens, Fasth). The Oilers are going to continue spinning their wheels until he decides to experiment with proven NHL players that other teams would actually want.

Was there last night, I am guessing the Oil Kings would have given the Kings a better game.

Oilers defenses is beyond bad.

Saw the tweet last night average age for the Oilers is like 26.3, the average age for the Kings is 27.4. So this young crap is not going to fly.

Maybe they get it turned around, but the turn needs to be a 180 cuz that is one of the worst hockey teams I have seen in awhile.

It sucks because the NHL needs a viable Oilers franchise in the playoff chase.

I am tired of seeing Katz's kid grow up before our eyes during the draft. Dude is gonna be of legal drinking age soon.

Nugent-Hopkins injured again...shocker.
I could run the Oilers better than those goofs upstairs. Why do these kids keep ending up in the lineup? Is it because Gretzky was 18 when he played, so every top draft pick now should be in the nhl at 18?

"Dallas Eakins praises how his players handle the adversity of getting their asses kicked"

Holy (frank).

Dallas will be gone after the Canuck game. If not then we will all know that Lowe, MacT, and the rest of the bozos in oil management are purposely tanking for a good draft pick.

I think Dallas has lost the room because last night you could tell the players don't give a poop anymore. Benching their best defenceman was the last straw for the core players.

Two thoughts (I didn't watch last night's game).

1) The first two games of the season, the oilers played better hockey than most of last year. Defense looked somewhat more comfortable in their own end. Forwards were doing more backchecking. We had 4 lines that could actually get a cycle going. We were taking care of the puck pretty well, and we mostly got burned by poor positioning/individual breakdowns.

It's a shame if Eakins believes that just because we only got 1 point in those two games, that whole style of play is forever damned. Give it time. It was promising.

2) If having the big shot that Brad Hunt provides is so important that A) We'd bench Petry to make sure we have it in the lineup and B) it paves over how outmatched Hunt has looked in so many facets of the game, then it's time to trade Petry, prospects, picks, etc. for a guy with a cannon shot who can do other things as well. It's time to pay the big price for that defenseman, if a guy with only one facet of that skill-set is being privileged in the oilers lineup and oilers plans. To a certain extent, the same thing applies while Nikitin flounders but is favoured over a guy like Marincin because of his size.

It's time to go get Tyler Myers or someone if we've fetishized size and a big shot so much. At least then we'd have fairly solid defensive play to go along with it.

Draisatl and Nurse should not be in the lineup.

Nuge was 18 his first year, playing at 140 pounds.

For all that assume that this game means something for what is going to happen this season, I'm sure you all remember the inverse. When we beat LA at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season in the Yak celly game? Yep, that certainly set the tone for what happened the rest of the way.

Did last night suck? Undoubtedly. Does it mean anything other than "don't scratch Petry"? Nope.

If you were management, wouldn't you consider keeping Nurse & Draisaitl in the minors to shelter them from whatever's going on with the culture?

If nothing else, I'm glad that the blush is starting to come off the idea of tanking for a couple years and just assuming 1 or 2 1st overall picks = dynasty.

I would consider sending all guys who could go back to Jr.

I don't know if a ton of oilers fans here thought we'd get an insta-dynasty. Sorry about the abrasive, drunk Cloutiers you argued with in that bar that one time.
