If we got McDavid i would suggest we trade the Nuge. I love him but he'd bring us the defenseman we need in a trade
- Ihatebrianburke

I am 100% ok with this...

Stuart is terrible.
And all those forwards are wingers... Not a 2C

- Oilfan19

OK on Stuart but the other three didn't get your attention?

If you want a centre then go out and get Ryan Johansen, Tyler Toffoli, Jiri Hudler, Paul Gaustad, Kyle Turris, etc, etc…

Lots available but you got to pay a price. MacT covets draft picks and I don't know why.

Brian Boyle is basically Gordon with more size
Dan Boyle is old and would be on his last legs, not to mention there was no way he would sign here.
Gionta, great another small forward to hear about
Moulson is a winger and would be a waste
Vanek - see moulson
Cammalleri would of been a great pick up, doubt he would sign here.
Mitchell is awful, worse then ference
J Jokinen would not fit here
Olli would be decent but hes over the hill as well and I doubt this would change our fortunes, though I would of liked him for depth

Missed Ehrhoff, would of liked him

RJ is available?? Hudler from Calgary? Gaustad sucks, Turris is not available as he is the only forward in ottawa now. Toffoli is another young guy which doesnt help us with the veteran thing.

Just because a guy plays Center and is good does not mean they are available...

I know what you are saying but there's been some quality players moved recently that would help the oil:

Nick Leddy
Johnny Boychuk
Brad Stuart
Josh Gorges

PA Parenteau
James Neal
R.J. Umberger
Scott Hartnell

These guys aren't game changers but they would definitely help on the ice and in the room.

You dangle this year's 1st round pick and you could have any player (without a trade clause) you want.

- bloatedmosquito

Was waiting on Boychuk. And agreed. There were some risks no doubt, but I'dve paid.

The rest..meh.
I don't think gorges makes far more impact than Fayne or even nikitin.
Leddy is a better skating, worse hands Schultz.

And for what we needed up front m not sure any of those names are head and shoulders better than pouliot/Purcell. Neal is a scorer. We got those. Parenteau meh.
Umberger fuk no.
Absolute yes to Hartnell. Ugly contract tho

I see ur point,

Erhoff and Olli are the two i'd have gone for. They (help to) fill clear needs on our team.

That being said, Ehrhoff went to Pittsburgh (not poopty). I also can't say with any certainty that Edmonton didn't go after these two. They didn't land them at all costs, for sure and they probably could have.

Most of them ended up in Nashville, Buffalo, or Florida I think.

I'm not a marketing genius, but if it was me I'd try and make Edmonton and Northlands into some sort of storied franchise of winning. Highlight the depth of your winning 80"s teams, and get them more involved in creating that atmosphere. I know they do that already a bit, but selling that to the young kids entering the NHL is important.

Kids want to play in Montreal or Toronto cause they grew up there and loved it. Why don't kids from Sask and AB, not feel the same way about the team they grew up loving?

When is that new stadium being built, as that will help attract FA's as well.

Like when Gretzky called Schultz when he was deciding between EDM/TOR/VAN?

Edit: I remember some Canucks fans wanted Linden to call him after that...

Yeah if we could have landed Hartnell and either not signed Pouliot or not traded Gags for Purcell, I would have.

The thing to remember is that with Ference, Schultz, Fayne, Nikitin, Petry and Marincin we should have a decent enough NHL calibre dcore (albeit missing that top end guy). Coaching/Management's decision to deploy Hunt and Nikitin in huge minutes and scratch Petry is not a problem created by not acquiring Leddy/Boychuk.

Remember you are signing some of these guys for what they would do in practice, in the locker room, and on the bench. Not always what they would be doing on the ice.

W. Mitchell would have taught your youth how to be men in the NHL. He did it in LA.

That's fuking steep.
Is Carlson so much better than petry that we need to add in a first AND Eberle in exchange for Troy Brouwer to offset value???

Doubt Washington wants more snipe talent. They've had lots of it for years and couldn't get it done.
I'd make that Anaheim trade. Be surprised if they did tho

- hugefemale dog77

Most commentators are saying we have to give up more value to get slightly lesser value back. As D is our biggest problem, a good start is getting a young stud like Carlson.
Meanwhile we get size, skill and grit to complement the first line.

Too bad that Maroon got hurt; he was playing RW with Getz/Perry. I think Smith-Pelley is slotted in there now. They have lots of RW talent but S-P has youth, speed, size & grit----the only thing stopping him from flourishing is he's lower on the pecking order on a strong team.
