all three of them were terrible at this time last year too, hopefully they all figure out quickly
- jimbro83

Yeah, I'm not panicking at all. I absolutely believe they will turn this around before we hit 10 games. Defense is too good and they are all veterans to not be able to fix this quick. Just bummed after waiting for hockey to come back and this is how they start.

McDonagh looked like a traffic cone with Cory Conachor drove past him in the 1st period last night.

Its almost like they know they are bad and are trying way too hard which is making it worse. Like our esteemed poster dundee said,"keep it simple".

I hope McDonagh is being a traffic cone for halloween or something so he was just testing out the costume a little early

I don't think I have ever seen him get beat like that. That was impressive for how bad it was.

The messed up part, is if he would have just thrown the puck at the boards like most kids are taught he wouldn't have had a bad game. All 4 of his horrendous turnovers were soft passes right in front of the net or up the middle.

i'm still scratching my head as to why he tried to send those pucks right up the middle. it's ill-advised even when the passes have some gusto on them, let alone those horrible wobblers.

The turn over to Okposo was like being an idiot in NHL and hitting the pass button when your goalie has it covered with two players in front of him, just an egregious error and right after the tying goal was your fault too

Forwards coverage in front of the net has been embarrassingly poor. Much of the blame is on the D and Hank, but can't absolve the forwards completely.
- airjan23

I think you make a good point; though the D look like crap, the team
Defense is also failing miserably though it's a little harder to identify.
Certainly some guys look to be left open in the high slot and other areas
Where there should be some coverage happening. As mcD said in the
Post game -it's something the team needs to figure out as
A group. Therefore, it's misleading to say the forwards did fine
-maybe on offense they did, but not on D.

Has to be all mental right, the given ability of our D is well above average, mental is fixable but can it be terminated, if only we could have finished a PP or Hayes finishes that 2 on 1 and we are no shaking our heads

I think our defensive system is difficult to master at the start of the season. Yes a lot of players from last year are here again but the system overall requires all 5 players on the ice to be in sync so if one of the new forwards is a little off our defensive zone coverage just breaks down and turns into a mess.

I hear they have already signed McDavid to a 7 year 6 million a year contract, and everybody is saying oh man, what a bargain that's going to be like all the other guys making 6 million a year up there.

Its really not fair. They have all this franchise talent stuck together just losing. Would be better for the league if these guys were split apart on different teams. Imagine if a team like phoenix had yak, nashville had RNH? More parity. But nope some of the most talented pyoungsters in the league are stuck being irrelevant on an irrelevant team.

it never made sense for them to draft Yakupov. They should have traded that pick for multiple assets. They have already thrown this latest 18 year old into the mix, Draisaitl, who clearly isn't ready and should be sent back to juniors after 9 games.

They repeatedly throw these young kids millions and millions of dollars while they are still teenagers and throw them into the lineup with no solid veteran leadership. It's never going to work. They'll be drafting in the top 5 for the next 50 years.

It is like Cleveland in the NBA. Doesn't matter where they finish in the standings, somehow Edmonton will always have the top pick. Doesn't matter if if is only a 0.9% odds

They haven't developed these players well at all. Outside of hall all their top picks were rushed and are suffering now. Ebs is good but he wasnt a top pick and was developed for a couple years before entering the nhl I believe.

RNH was like a baby at 18 in terms of physical development and (frank)ed up.his shoulder and hasnt really taken the next step since. They will say it was a freak injury but the point remains. Yakupov is just mind(frank)ed at this point. Dude is lost. Draisaitl is more physically ready but his game isn't there yet lile you said. You look at other players the entered the league at 18 and more often than not they had success early on and then failed miserably in the long run...Bailey, MDZ, Gagner, Larsson, etc.
