I think that is part of it. But a big part of it is also that the Flyers wore them down on the forecheck in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
- MJL

That's my point. That had as much to do with the Ducks fatigue as it did the Flyers efforts.

I get that. I think what hurts Schenn is that he isn't going to be a 2nd line center here. I think they want to get Couturier more dynamic wingers and let Laughton play his roll as a defensive thrid line center eventually. That is why they are trying to play Schenn at wing.
- J35Bacher

I understand that, and I agree with you. If that is the case, then they need to stick him there and let him sink or swim. Hopefully that happens this year. However, if that is the plan with the Flyers, then people are going to have to give him some time to develop chemistry with the position, let alone with linemates... If their plan is to turn him into a first line LW, then 4 periods with G is not enough time do develop that chemistry.

That exact same argument was levied at JvR after his first three seasons... you sure you want to move Schenn based on that kind of logic?
- Tomahawk

If Schenn plays with the effort and grit that he played with last night on a regular basis, he'll be fine, and his game will come around.

Claude Giroux and Mike Richards were players chosen in the teens.
- MJL

Mike Richards didn't win a cup with the Flyers but won one with 2nd overall pick Doughty. He also never beat 1st overall Crosby and 2nd overall Malkin in a playoff series while a member of the Flyers.

As the #1 center on the Flyers, Giroux's greatest achievement has been getting rolled out the 2nd round by the New Jersey Devils. Also making team Canada last year proved he was way better than all those top 5 picked forwards on the rosters..... Oh wait. But he did get nominated for an award at the end the season. Ovechkin has won a ton of post season wards for perspective.

What exactly has Claude Giroux done to warrant so much admiration? Lindros was run out of town for not doing enough yet this guys orange Jesus. Since when did Flyers fans standards get so low.

That argument was wrong with JVr. Like i said earlier he showed flashes of greatness, like in that bruin series. What has schenn shown?

I think that the Flyers elevated their game after the 1st period, was the biggest factor.

Is this a joke post? Giroux is the highest scoring player in the league this decade.

He also beat 1st overall Crosby and 2nd overall Malkin in a playoff series.

2nd-line, 3rd-line, do those designations even hold any meaning here? Berube's totally BURYING his "2nd-line" in the DZ and sheltering his "3rd-line" from any hard defensive responsibilities.

IMO, it's less a question of usage w/ Schenn, and more a need to put him w/ players that actually can juice the most out of his natural skill set... not pigeonholing/relegating him to a net-front/corner-mucking plug. He's got a terrific shot... they need to find ways to get him more open looks, in a greater variety of shooting areas.

And Getzlaf and Perry were #19 and #28 in their draft.
- Feanor

Yes, we can all find exceptions. The reality is this. You are much more likely to get an all-star in the top 5 picks than 11-30.

It's like, well the Wings got Zetterberg in the 7th round, so let's keep trading down and amassing picks in the 7th round so we can find the next Zetterberg.

Now, I've taken that to an extreme to make a point. That point is you can't use an exception to invalidate a rule.

This is where I just sign off and study.

When the board reaches that point of the post you quoted, it just isn't worth it for the day.

I agree. He probably should get more time on the top line. I think what was discouraging was that he just didn't seem engaged. I watch Couturier and even if he isn't scoring he is still engaged. Playing physicall. Playing solid d. Killing penalties. I know Schenn has a different skill set but then he needs to be really pushing play offensivlly since he isn't relied on like Couturier is for other parts of the game.

It's not all on other players or on the Coach. It's mostly on Schenn. Before last night's game, he hasn't been very good. To dismiss his own play as a factor is foolish. He hasn't been getting in the open spots or going to scoring areas enough.

Looked much better than 10/40/17, that's for damned sure.

(would still rather see 10 in the middle, though.)

I think it's a mistake not giving Schenn a chance to play center. You realize the only reason their doing that, right? It's because they are scared that he'll do well, and then they'll have a huge problem on their hands when Vinnie comes back.

So they're again forcing a player to play out of position to cover a GM's mistake.

That's just based on what happened with 10/40/17 last year. I'd like to see that line together when Lecavalier comes back.

The Bruins won the Cup with their three best players being

Bergeron - 45th in 2003
Chara - 56th in 1996
Thomas - 217th in 1994

And they beat the Sedins (2nd and 3rd in 1999) and Luongo (4th in 1997) to do it.
