The Kings (LA, not Sacramento) had an offer a few years back. 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 sodas for $44 a ticket. It's amazing what a Finals run will do for your fanbase.
- jmatchett383

A lot of displaced fans in SoCal just like in SoFl. It's also trendy when a team does well like the Kings. The Dodgers had a lot of new fans when Manny Ramirez arrived in Summer '08. "Mannywood" couldn't stop them from arriving in the 3rd inning and leaving in the 7th though.

the Panthers owners must be making money

They are. Ed Snider and the other NHL owners pay them handsomely.

Oddly enough, I met a bunch of displaced NHL fans in Nashville when I went down there. Paul McCann being a good example. They've since adopted the Predators, and Bridgestone Arena is right in downtown Nashville (which is surprisingly tiny). That fanbase is small, but very loyal.

They used to have quite the duo with him and Peter Worrell.

Look at that OnIceSV%... when your goalies can't stop more than 3/4 of the shots on net when you're on the ice, you're looking at some wicked short-term, unsustainably bad luck. Mark Streit, by comparison, enjoys a 96.2 SV% when he's on the ice.

So yeah, MDZ has been better than Streit, but has been a victim of poor short-term puck luck. He's not the most hearty guy down low, nor the most risk-averse... but as far as doing his darned job (pushing play forward), he's faring as well as can be expected.

They could bench him when Coburn gets back, but right now he's the only thing that's holding the anchor that is Luke Schenn afloat.

Five things I want to see tonight:

1. B. Schenn going all out every second of every shift. Your coach publicly called you out, you gonna wilt or are you gonna man up? Up to you kid.

2. Claude Giroux makes a statement. Your the captain and your team is an early season mess. Time to step up and have one of those playoff type opening shifts to start this game. Flyers cannot and will not beat the Ducks if the captain doesn't have a monster game.

3. 60 minutes of all out effort! Supposedly these guys are in shape, so no excuses boys, get those wheels moving and keep em moving.

4. Something, anything from Michael Del Zotto. Do you want to keep on playing in the NHL, son? Yes? Well then show us why you should!

5. All five men on the ice committing to playing sound positional defense with short gaps and feet moving. Stop standing around and stop running around. There is no excuse for how you played in the 3rd against Montreal. Step it up!

GO FLYERS!!

Southern hospitality! The people that move to Nashville are very different to those that take up residence in Los Angeles. LA is more of a transitional place and Nashville is more of a destination, ya know.

Regarding MDZ, I think Berube's comment about Schultz "less is more" could apply to him as well. Play D first, make the simple easy pass when available, and pick your spots when pinching to play offense a bit more carefully.

I don't want to completely take away his offensive game, but to me it seems he is trying to do too much there and can be reckless at times.

My opinion is they badly need a guy like him to generate speed out of the back end and someone else besides Streit who can get a shot on net.
But MDZ needs to balance that out with steadier play in the D zone.

Some good coaching of this young guy could go a long ways.

Maybe it's not fixable, which would be a shame.
But if Gord Murphy could have success with MDZ it would be tremendous for the Flyers. They badly need a guy with offensive skill on the blue line, at least until Gotisbehere is ready. So I'm not ready to give up on MDZ yet.

I heard a rumor that the Flyers got rid of the ice girls because the players were being distracted. They have not won since they were brought back.

It's early. I think MDZ has some decent raw materials. I'm willing to give it a little time.

At least, you don't watch him and marvel at how slow he is.

The Flyers are so committed to hockey that they've never seen girls before. That's why they get so flustered by the ice girls.

It's not "puck luck" when a goalie gives up a goal cause one of the defensemen is totally out of position.

MDZ is #1 in Corsi because he was so terrible against Montreal that Berube nailed his ass to the bench in the 3rd.

LSchenn was +10 last year when not playing with another MDZ type in Meszaros. Gus and MacDonald formed solid pairings with him.

So Del Zotto is our new Eric Desjardins or Kimmo Timonen and it's an impossibility that Schenn would ever improve next to a better D partner, as shown in the past?

Interesting angle. It's possible that MDZ's on-ice sv% is low because of him and Schenn blowing coverages though. Bad luck too. It'll be worth keeping an eye on. .778 is unsustainably low though.
