He is exactly the player that I'm envious of. They have a 23 year old stud on the backend, that they can build around forever it seems. Pisses me off. But I'm hoping that in time, Morin or Sanheim can be that player for the Flyers.

I have to admit that I was very "meh" on Sanheim when they drafted him. But he's changed my tune very quickly.

I take him over Weber and Doughty. He has Weber's size and Doughty's skill. I really believe he is turning into a serious monster. I love watching him play. Still cant fathom that he is 23.
- jak521

Well, I have a serious man crush on Shea Weber. And his mean streak is pretty hard to emulate. He is the closest thing to Chris Pronger that the game has. His main thing he has over Weber is age.

It really is frustrating. That is a guy who single handedly can change a franchise. The most important player (IMHO), is a elite 2-way d-man.

If Morin or Sanheim even sniff him I will be pleased.

The player I saw last night is as good as Shea Weber. Doughty's a different animal because of how well he skates with the puck, but Hedman's strength is stunning to watch in person.

He makes passes that other guys just can't make because of pure strength

One common mis-conception is that Hedman doesnt have enough nasty to his game. Namely I believe this is because of his origin. If he was Canadian and played the same game you would never hear it. He is a nasty SOB.

I agree to an extent. Analytics can't be applied to a single game in any sport, which has to do with sample size. Over the course of an 82 game season, you want to be a good possession team as well as have more scoring chances. More scoring chances = more quality scoring chances. Clutch plays and such can win some games but they can't be the driving factor in determining how good a team is or how to build a team to win games. There's no way of knowing when these things will happen.
- NickTheKid87

Clutch plays are exactly what lifts one team over another in the playoffs, when the game matters the most. They are inconsistent by nature. So that's what makes those kinds of play more valuable. Because they have a greater impact on the game then possession does. That's not to say that possession isn't important. Because it is. But not as important as other factors. Those factors happen far less often then a attempted shot does in a game. That's why sample size doesn't matter when it comes to that. It only takes one in a game to drastically alter the outcome.

Nik Lidstrom didn't have much nasty to his game either.

No, I'm not saying that because of his origin. It's because Shea Weber, when he gets riled up, is the nastiest player in the league. I saw him get cut with a stick and no penalty was called. Be basically turned into OdinZeusThorHulk for a good 45 seconds and was straight up decking dudes.

I'm aiming even higher and hope Morin-Sanheim = Weber-Suter

Divide both sides of the equation, (a - b) * (a + b) = a * (a - b)
- jmatchett383

A = B

Therefore a - b = 0

You can't divide by zero, ya pleb

I get what you're saying and I agree. To be a team that gets into the position to even be in these important games though, you need to take the more concrete stuff into account like possession vs. clutch goals, key saves, etc.

Exactly. That's why you can't do it.

By the way, the equation ends up becoming 0 / 0 = 0 / 0

- jmatchett383

Yeah and 0/0 is worse than just having #/0 because calculus doesn't even work when that happens

I don't think any of it should be discounted. It's all important. I'm just saying that one is more important then the other. But possession is all the rage as if it's something new and shiny in Hockey.

There are just things to quantify possession, it's not possession itself that is being deemed "new". It's being given more attention.
