No, what I'm saying is that Del Zotto's flaws are no better or worse than any other defenseman's on this roster, with Coburn out

Del Zotto has less rope because he's a lesser player than Karlsson -- that's fine. But Erik Gustafsson couldn't play here, either. Never got more than a few games. And that's fine too, if Gustafsson can't play.

Ghost will be the test case. Because most people are excited about what Ghost has done thus far as a Flyers draft pick.

But what will be the response if Ghost posts, say, an 7/32/-9?

- AllInForFlyers

I see that point. Gostibehere's puck skills and skating game are already NHL caliber. How well he can play away from the puck is going to be a big factor in how good he is.

What if that's Ghost fourth year?
- AllInForFlyers

Then he'll be playing on the 3rd pair and seeing limited ice time. If he is not producing offensively at a high enough rate, then his primary skill set is not good enough for NHL regular minutes. It's that plain and simple.

The sad part is, Schenn's play actually improved when he was with Gustafsson. For some reason Berube felt the need to keep giving games to Meszaros
- Jsaquella

I always took that as that they were trying to get rid of Mez (and his salary) and therefore, had to play him so teams could see he was injury free.

Actually, it was mostly the Devils game, but w/e.

You're right. My mistake.

That's one of the baffling parts. They didn't believe in Gus, they might not like Del Zotto. Fine. Maybe it's those two players who didn't get the job done.

But the Flyers need another player LIKE them. So if MacDonald isn't going to play with Schenn, then at some point, everybody's going to have to accept that a No. 6 defenseman is going to have some flaws.

- AllInForFlyers

I'm fine with a #6 defender having flaws. It's the extent of the flaws that upset me.

If that pickup wasn't Bob Clarke at his most tone deaf, I don't know what is.

As always, this stuff starts when somebody says that a player's underlying metrics aren't quite what we're seeing -- all Tomahawk did was say that MDZ's metrics aren't sustainable, and off we went

I thought the puck hit him in the back of the skate... I could be remembering it wrong.

Probably played a role in it sure. Meanwhile it likely cost them Gustafsson as a viable alternative

How do you trade away a forward that couldn't score in over 100 straight games....and LOSE THE (frank)ING TRADE.?!?!?!?!?!?

In today's NHL, 7/32/-9 is a high rate for an offensive defenseman -- a guy like Andrei Markov was 7/36 at +12 last year for a 100-point team, which we all would like Ghost to do/be

Billy Tibbetts is the hockey equivalent of landing on Chance in Monopoly and getting the card that says "Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200."

Brian Gibbons on waivers, Flyers should claim him instead of recalling VandeVelde

To me it's immaterial. Both Grossmann and MDZ have been bad, so flip a coin. One has lost a step and hasn't been as good reading plays as a result and the other makes bad decisions in terms of when to attack and pinch.
- Jsaquella

Hmm with that in mind, I'm surprised Berube has paired em together yet

I have to agree.

And believe me, I hated Kyle Calder.
