come now, the one I raised was a perfectly reasnable question. martin is an asset that could be moved, would probably be out west, and my questions about replacing him were practical. no need for the sarcasm.
- ChrisMS

If the Penguins want to be considered serious Cup contenders this season, then Martin is of more value to them in the lineup that shipped out West for picks/prospects (assuming it's a traditional TDL deal). He's a very good #3 defenseman, and moving him will decrease their chance of winning a Cup this year. So why would they want to move him?

We *may* get a little bit of a discount on Maatta on his market value. Just thinking out loud but these contracts, for better or worse, tend to place a lot of value on offensive production. Could be wrong but just a thought...

Secondly, we should be in better shape as the cap rises and our core continues to be locked up. Each year.... Sid, Geno, and Letang's contracts become better value so yes, pay Maatta. I could see him being Tanger's partner on the top pair eventually long term.

not for picks/prospects. for a forward. if maatta is the new number 3 then martin is best trade chip pens have. if it didnt bring immediate help then it wouldnt be worth moving him. maybe they could get a mid pick for his rights prior to fa. actually, strike that, I forgot about the new rule.

dont forget MAF. people wont like to hear this on this board, but he may be the best goalie available in the market, and GMJR is known to put big bucks into goalies. Despite objecions, he may be risigned. I am a fan of MAF but even I doubt this is the best move after this year, but it still may happen

Martin plus a lower pick/prospect to LA for Williams. Both UFAs at the end of the season.
- cap1681

I do think LA is very likely possible destination for Martin if he gets moved. Williams is an interesting get. We would get a froward (very important), a guy known as Mr. Game Seven (also very important), but we still don't get a "top 6 winger" . This one is tricky. Does it make us a better team in the short term/cup run? I guess that depends on how the younger guys play and as someone already mentioned, Pouliot is a huge wild card.

Or does it not make sense to trade our best trade chip and not address our biggest area of need?

Definitely interesting.

Other way of looking at it is that GMJR has recently been burnt by a big money contract to Cam Ward and doesn't want to risk making the same mistake...

If it's for a forward, then why does it have to be at the TDL? Like I said, a "traditional" TDL deal is giving a contending team a roster player for future help. But the only people that will want Martin as a pending UFA will be contending teams, and I doubt a contending team will be willing to fork over a top-6 forward to get him.

It would be a great deal. Pay him 2-3 mil more for 2 years, but then you get him for a steal for the last 5. Like Ryan said, bigger and bigger contracts will be given out in the near future so 5 mil for maatta in 2018 will look like a great deal

Yeah, how's that working for us right now?

Also, not sure how it's relevant to the question, but whatever.

I had the same surgery as well. It was brutal, never want to deal with that again. I thought I was doing better at one point, unloaded the dishwasher and had my hand out at 90 degrees with 2 plates, completely collapsed and broke the plates. I was in so much pain.

Yep, anything, even light before you are ready can completely undo all healing. My bro almost retore his entire shoulder when his dog slipped walking dog the stairs behind him and he turned to catch her (american bulldog).

This guy has become a bit of a running joke around here. No one is (frank)ing giving up that kind of haul for a declining Ryan, even if he's signed an extension, unless their head is damaged. And yes that's a knock on you Palmer.

What the (frank)? I come on here for a civil conversation and you're just being severely rude to me. I post in here all of the time, and you're the first person to act this ignorantly towards me. You're like an Eagles fan.

And yes, the Flyers are not good right now, when did I say otherwise? And Bobby Ryan was never available to the Flyers because Ottawa severely overpaid to keep him. I'm not really sure where you're going with this.

Yeah, I don't think either team is doing that. Ottawa overpaid to keep him, and would look foolish to just dump him (especially when they'd need a forward in return, not more D) before it kicks in. On the flip side, that's a terrible deal for Pittsburgh, not to mention they'd be stuck with his deal.

That was roughly 18 months ago... hes done with College Football (not related, douche new coach but my bro kept his scholarship regardless), but he wouldn't have been ready in under 6 months. They told him 10, he was good a bit before 8. Still in complete disbelief Maatta came back this fast.
