So the Flyers aim should be to get a top-3 pick every other year?
- jmatchett383

Yes, a top 3 pick is always a great player. Just ask Cam.

That's why I wanted the kids on the roster. I'd be more entertained watching Gostisbehere, Morin, Laughton and Leier than Grossman, MacDonald, Rinaldo and Umberger/Jones. We're losing and few of the players are getting better

i know right, its just brutal to watch them, its like groundhog day every friggn game, no excitement, no fire...if its not there its not there, thats why i wouldnt care about a complete gut job

Added a post-practice report to today's blog:

The Flyers had three goalies on the ice for a portion of practice today. Ray Emery left the ice early, with Steve Mason and 19-year-old Jeff Hextall remaining on the ice. The team practiced shootouts at the end of practice, with Hextall defending in goal.

Exactly -- I like the draft and talented young players as much as the next person, but the reality is that some guys with talent simply do not make it

Can you remind me which years Shea Weber, PK Subban, and Kris Letang were taken with first round picks?

So...you are suggesting that Hexy call up Colorado and offer to switch teams a la Pocklington with Toronto?

Barker might have hit the bottle a little harder when he was developing, from what I read, never had the hockey sense. He had physical ability

These reports that the Flyers were being stoned by some 18 year old kid in shootout practice has to be false right?
- PLindbergh31

of course not. they could put an orange (frank)ing cone in there, and they still wouldn't score.

I was upset they lost, but that doesn't mean the games weren't exciting for the most part.

Ha! Trust me, I hear you -- the quickest way to be a lottery team is to plan on a lottery pick to get you out of it

For the record, I hate the Philadelphia fans who are only happy (and only show up on boards like this) when they have something to complain about.

Regarding the shootout practice -- and it feels a little silly to worry about it, which was why Berube made light of it -- the shooters taking turns on Jeff Hextall were Akeson, Jones, Couturier and Voracek. He stopped every one on one go-round and all but Jones the second go-around. On the third go-round, he stoned Akeson and Couturier but Voracek and Jones both hit the post and the puck stayed out. At the end, everyone but Akeson scored on their final try.

No, was obviously pre-planned. The Flyers had all three goalies out at the beginning after Mason did his usual first-on-the-ice work with Reese. Emery put in his work and left the ice ahead of everyone else. He may be under the weather or was excused early but there was no injury.

It's not, but at the same time, they're better with him currently in the lineup than without him in it. Shortest midget syndrome.
