When the Flyers are healthy, I'd put them up against Buffalo, Calgary, and Carolina.

So definitely bottom-5...

I'm not so sure the F corps ranks that highly, either.

That's nuts, imo. They have a legit top pair with Giordano and Brodie.

I agree but we've been talking about this potential for the past 4 years now. Bogosian is 24 and has played 355 NHL games and Myers is the same age and has played 320. Luke Schenn has played 310. Not only have these players not improved, you could make an argument that they've gotten worse. At what point do we say they're busts?

People oft cite Pronger of having a rebirth of sorts after being highly toted but he played less than half the amount of games that this other guys played when he was traded to the Blues from the Whalers.

- NickTheKid87

Schenn's played 439 games.

In the cases of Myers and Bogosian, it's the physical abilities that make you think they might be able to elevate their games. Both are in bad situations and may just need a change of scenery to unlock their full potential.

In the case of Schenn, he doesn't have the skill set those guys possess. He's a good north south guy in terms of mobility, but he struggles east-west. He doesn't have a ton of offensive ability.

Pretty sure we having nothing TB needs
Therein lies the problem

Funny, because someone on here last week said he give the Flyers defense a middle-third ranking in the league.

Agreed, EDM is soft. But I'll take their speedy skill over the Flyers slow grit any day of the week.
- bradleyc4

Have to admit, you can fake it when you can pass the puck and go get it -- Edmonton gets crushed down low and on the cycle, but at least they can move the puck out of their end when they do get it

It's still a little bit of pick your poison, though -- both not effective at this level

I'd take the Flames D over the Flyers. Giordano, Brodie, Smid, Russell and Diaz are solid. The trouble in Calgary is the huge contracts to Wideman and Engelland.

If you figure in potential (aka unrealized production), they could be middle-up.

If you just look at it purely in terms of track-record, they're probably middle-down.

Agreed, both teams need a better mix. But I would rather start with their guys.

Easier to find and acquire what they need.

Calgary's defense isn't horrifying, I thought -- I've watched them twice, as well. Not great, but they compete and do have some skill. Not a ton of size

They've been finding juice for Pittsburgh for some time now. Probably win that one
- eayost

You could easily argue the Pens have been the best team out of the gate. If they played tomorrow you'd have to give me 6 goals to take the Flyers on a bet.

Whoops I got the Schenn number from his time with the Leafs. I'm all for low risk-high reward moves but I'm not sure trading for Bogosian and Myers will be that. Maybe average risk-high reward or high risk-high reward.

Edmonton and Philadelphia are perfect trading partners, but neither of them see it

The Schenns should be in Edmonton, but they were fixated on Coburn. They overvalue all of their players, but they are just too soft, except for Taylor Hall, who is an absolute beast

How amazing is it that the player the Flyers traded JVR for, can't crack the third pairing on the worst defense core in the League?

Stupefying.

About as amazing as people mentioning that every 5 seconds

If the Flyers are out of it at the TDL I actually see pieces that teams might want. Coburn, MacDonald, Vinny, Umberger, Schenn, Grossmann could all be moved. They could fill a need for a team going into the playoffs. We have all seen trades at the TDL and questions how team b got certain picks or players from Team A but teams do silly things when going into the playoffs.

I'm not sure either. It's a risk. I just think Luke is what he is and Brayden is a total enigma to me.

I see the talent and potential for him, but he just seems to lack confidence or something. I'd think getting a shot to play with Giroux & Voracek would light a fire for him. Seemed to do the opposite.

Vinny needs to go to Toronto. It's gotta happen.
