Cowen had an injured hip before the draft which dropped his value. That should've been a red flag for management who I guess took a chance with him.

Looking back on the 2009 NHL entry draft, the Sens faired very well considering it wasn't all that deep of a draft.

The Sens picked Cowen 9th, Silverberg 39th, Lehner 46th & Chris Wideman 100th.. Pretty good considering the talent that's in the NHL making an impact.

Zack Kassian, Chris Kreider & ROR would've been great instaed of Cowen but a lot of teams missed on them.
